This is actually something that extends beyond music. For instance, I spend way more time watching running videos on YT than actually going out to run myself.
I think it's still important as it's a form a meditation about a particular act or interest. But yeah, I agree that at times we fawn over the act instead of participating in the act itself.
I mean, I absolutely love talking or reading about my favorite music, but I've noticed that, to a certain extent, I have replaced the enjoyment of the actual music with the enjoyment of all these otehr things around it. If I'm not actually taking the time to enjoy the music, there is no point in all the talk and thinking around it, as far as I'm concerned.
Like I mentioned, I've realized this is something that happens with other hobbies I have. Back when I was heavy into guitar playing I spent too much time thinking about my rig and improving it, and not enough time playing it.
