The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project

It actually makes perfect sense, since many songs on the album is about Kurt and Courtneys releationship and the cracks in the surface of that whole drug infused reality and therefore kinda chronicles Kurts impending death, at least in the subtext on songs like Violet, Doll Parts and I Think...

I agree that the last Hole was pretty good! Celebrity Skin is flawed but has some of their best songs ("Boys on the Radio" and "Awful"). Love's solo album also had some great moments. The only album I actually don't like that much by them/her is the debut, "Pretty on the Inside".

Easily one of my favorite albums from the 90s! This was the culmintion of the whole grunge era (at least for me), and made even more poignant by the fact it came just days after Kurts demise.

Yeah, I agree. I mean, I get why certain bands and artists can have multiple albums in this book but only if the albums showcase different aspects their career or have some other noteworthy thing that sets them apart. For example, I can totally understand including both Aftermath and Exile on...

Iron Butterfly was bad. I mean like, really bad. Like almost-ruined-my-whole-day kind of bad. I love the Mamas and the Papas! Those harmonies are divine, and California Dreamin’ is like a top 20 song of all time, IMHO. It is also featured in a sublime way to express alienation and longing in...

So ok, that was pretty great. I had heard a few of the songs before but this was still surprisingly earnest and sad, no tongue-in-cheek ironic ennui anywhere.

Never really got hooked on Becks more serious stuff. Don’t think I’ve even heard this one to be honest.

This album has a unique sound to me. Every time I put it on it’s like a horizon manifests itself in whatever room I happen to be in. It’s majestic, but also slightly broken at the same time. I love most of the other Calexico albums too, but none quite match this.

This is one of my favourite albums of the last 25 years.

Hell yeah! This is a must have!

So, just a short addition to the discourse about the british/american bias in the book: I have the Swedish edition of the book, and they have switched up some of the entries to include a bunch of Swedish and Scandinavian acts. There’s only three Byrds-albums in that one for example, if I’m not...

Or what the hell....the film is awesome and so is the soundtrack.

By some weird coincidence or some kind of unknown binding in cosmos, the Bad Brains cover of "Kick out the jams" actually features in a climactic scene in the high school movie "Pump Up the Volume" with Christian Slater. Don't ask me how I know this.

Run DMC was my introduction to rap, which is probably true to most white guys from Sweden who grew up in the 80s. I don't think it was "Walk This Way" for me though, as I think I'd heard "It's Like That" or "King of Rock" before that one on a mix tape from one of my friends' cool big brother...

First a quick recap: Tori Amos was great! I actually think I've only heard "Crucify" from this before, but the whole album was really great. I have listened a lot more to "Under the Pink" through the years,, which is also brilliant. ZZ Top is ZZ Top. Really. Silly and dumb but also groovy and...

Elastica is one of those bands that I dug the hell out of when this came out, and then forgot for a while, before the CD found it's way to my car where the cover was rattling around on the floor for many years so it was my go-to drive-music. So everytime I hear the riff to "Line up" I picture...

    New Music Friday!

New Taylor Swift is pretty awesome, to say the least. Could be her best album to date!

That IS a trevesty. Last Splash should definitely be in the book instead of Bossanova.

Kinda the same sentiment as Strangeways for me: The worst of the four initial Pixies albums, but still great though. Dig for Fire could be my favorite Pixies song.
