Neverending Covid-19 Coronavirus

When Trump was asked about wealthy people buying respirations for personal use / treatment he responded with such is life. Things like this happen from time to time and shrugged it off.

There is one respirator company that said they are receiving many calls from wealthy individuals looking to buy a portable respiration, and said they are denying their requests. So that's good. But not all respiration manufacturers are doing that.

So the reality of it, we have the wealthy preparing by buying respirators just in case that hospitals desperately need now.
it's extra frustrating to me because my wife has co-workers at her hospital that have been waiting for tests and/or results for weeks and athletes, who are among the healthiest of the healthy, are getting preferential treatment over healthcare workers. I can only imagine how all the healthcare workers are fuming over it.

I love seeing this outside the box thinking to try and help with this situation

Coronavirus updates: Navy hospital ship is heading to New York Harbor

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday that President Trump agreed to send a Navy hospital ship to New York Harbor, as the number of coronavirus cases continues to climb. The ship, USNS Comfort, holds about 1,000 rooms, including operating rooms, according to the governor.

"It's an extraordinary step, obviously, but it will be a - it's literally a floating hospital - it will add capacity, and the president said he would dispatch that immediately," Cuomo said Wednesday.

President Trump later confirmed the news at a Coronavirus Task Force briefing and said a second ship, Mercy, will head to the West Coast. The USNS Comfort was also sent to New York after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

On the other hand, does that perhaps indicate that we're building stronger herd immunity than we realize or than the Imperial College study accounted for? Real question, I don't know.

I would say yes, that's true, though I'm not sure what level of asymptomatics the Imperial College study accounted for to begin with. I hope somebody out there is doing random testing to try to estimate what this asymptomatic positive rate is in the population.

What can be estimated though is the number of deaths because you can't really miss those. Italy just declared a world-wide single-day high of 475 today. It's staggering.

Trump has issued guidance that all foreclosures and evictions be halted through the end of April.
When they say this, all it means is that come May, all the people who couldn't pay their bills will still be out in the streets, right? Unless the lenders and landlords let them catch up out of the goodness of their hearts? This isn't debt forgiveness as much as consequence postponement, right?

I emailed and asked any preorder records I had be postponed or cancelled. I know it’s a small action but I don’t want postal workers or employees carrying out unnecessary work

Im not sure what more testing is going to acheive apart from divert resources where perhaps they are more needed. The official figures are clearly very low, but does it matter, id ignore them.
If we have better data, we can build a decently robust model so we know how fast it's spreading, where there are potential hot spots--so we can best direct resources and create mandates on a local level, and how many people who are at risk are likely to get sick so we know how much of whatever we need. Also, you mention "flattening the curve". We won't know if we are doing that without good data, and for that, we need to start testing a lot more people.

Also it's guidance. It does not require the halt of evictions and foreclosures.

Hell to the no to ATM's with my bank. They still require you to fill out the deposit slip with a pen and put everything in an envelope.

I'm not touching that pen let alone the keys everyone presses to enter their pin.

Edit: Last time I made a ATM deposit they had no pen, I had no pen. And my deposit got reversed for a few days while they did the accounting to match me deposit with a transaction. I forget exactly what it was listed on my bank account activity, but it was scary looking and implied my deposit was missing / didn't contain money.
Hmmm, I work for a Credit Union and we have Mobile Deposit, we do have ATMs as well, but we're urging members to avoid them if at all possible by downloading our Mobile ap.......I'm kind of surprised every institution doesn't have this capability in this day and age. We closed all access to our branches, ATMs, PTMs and Driveups are still available, but again, we're encouraging members to use remote access.

Delta Airlines is cutting back service by 70% and issuing pay cuts to employees. It sounds like rather than laying employees off a full time employee might work a day or two here and there.

Edit: removed random link in the middle of 70% that linked to most recent posts in this thread.

Just adding this post in case anyone didn't see it. Some were asked to volunteer to furlough for April last week apparently.

Not just Virgin I guess. My sister in law is a flight attendant and signed something saying she'd keep her job if she didn't work (or get paid) for April. Not sure what would have happened if she didn't sign.

Edit: meant to say with Delta.

My 1 year old nephew has a fever and a cough today. My sister in law works at the hospital.

I was with him and her husband while my sister in law was working on Saturday. If he's positive, 14 incubation period means we all were exposed. Not sure if they'll even be able to get him tested, but we're all quarantining even heavier now until he does.

EDIT: The doctor told them not to get him tested unless symptoms get worse so I guess we're just hung out to dry for 14 days.

Should they not test him to see if they need to keep your sister in law away from the hospital or not? Have they quarantined her already? Here, it would be illegal for her to go. Either way, it would seem foolish to deprive yourself from a valuable healthcare staff without a test or foolish to let her go to the hospital without a test.

Hospital workers have their temperatures taken while on the job. That's as much as I know. I agree with you but, you know, US healthcare system.
