It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

It really does look to be Chelsea's year. Liverpool aren't bad but we're going to have to deal with the injury bug constantly creeping back in. They didn't sign any replacements outside of Konate, which was definitely an area of need. But midfield has been devastated by injuries and has very little depth. Then we have to contend with AFCON next month which will take Salah and Mane away for 4-5 matches, including against Chelsea. Now Chelsea has to lose Mendy for the same time. I think Liverpool's loss is greater since it's taking away our top two scoring options at a time when we need to keep pace with Chelsea and take advantage of them getting a draw or a rare loss. I think City has the best chance to keep up with Chelsea.
Liverpool has to deal with Arsenal today! Don't sleep on the Gunners! 😎

van der Beek had made a huge difference. He actually has composure on the ball. We’re still wide open at the back but at least we’re threatening to score ourselves now…

Don’t run before you can walk boojy! Liverpool are huge step up from what you’ve been beating the last few weeks. Plus you’ve an easy three points coming next Saturday on todays evidence!
That's just me and my false hope trying to will a win! We looked decent for a good bit of the first half but ultimately Liverpool had too many chances and our back line looked like shit on the set piece.

Here's to an early Aubameyang miracle in the 2nd half otherwise this could get ugly quick

You look like, for the first time since Wenger left, you’re on the right path. The recruitment in the summer was really good and it’s looking like there is a team beginning to emerge. Today always was going to be a challenge trying to play out from the against such an top aggressive pressing side with real killers up front.

Newcastle next weekend and our shambles the following Thursday won’t be this tough…

Farewell Ole! A good man who did a decent job until very recently, restored some soul back into the club after the boredom of van Gaal and the toxicity of Mourinho. Will always be a club legend. Whomever comes in next will have to be wary of this squad, in particular the midfield, it has shown a tendency over a number of years to down tools and get managers sacked.

With the announcement that they’re looking for an interim manager till the summer it’s looking increasingly like they’re tapping up Poch to take the job in the summer.

The question is, who is the safe pair of hands that can get the club through to the summer? For that kind of job it really is about experience. Is Hiddink still managing?

Edit: So he’s 75 and just recovered from Covid so perhaps that’s just a bit too old 😂. But the point is it’s that type of profile I’d be looking at for an interim.

Carrick will be Ole 2.0 after they beat PSG again in the RO16 in the CL 🤝

I don’t think it will be left that long. That said if we don’t get humiliated at Chelsea with Bailly the walking red card and Lindeloff in central defence it’s just Arsenal and then a decent enough run of fixtures. I also don’t think that even Carrick sees himself as a manager.

Hasn’t he been assistant to Ole and José for a while? Does he just like doing that but not full manager?
