It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

Hockey, like most of your sports, is much higher scoring. A football match could go on for bloody ages, especially as that type of jeopardy tends to make teams defensive, extra time is nearly always shit and it was even more shit when they trialled golden and silver goals for a while.
Golden goal was the wooooorst
I was never late for winemaking class though šŸ˜¬
A gentleman and a scholar!

Well technically hockey isnā€™t our sport, itā€™s just mostly played in the States. And until the last 20 years or so, it was for the most part a low scoring sport.

Hey @Skacel - what do you think on Considine being released? I think we could have done better by him.
Agreed. Wouldn't have minded keeping him for another season and feel like the club should've tried to make it work. Then again, he missed most of the season and in his first start back he was injured early in second half. Asking for a 2 year contract was a bit naĆÆve on his and his agent's part.
I don't think the club handled it well though, should have shown more class and left the original contract offer on the table rather than withdrawing it. There is a good feature on RedTV with him going back through the highlights of his career.

Hockey low-scoring? Thereā€™d be loads of goals in the 70s and 80s because the goalie pads were so small and GK technique was not as developed. Gretzky and co were scoring 7, 8, 9 goals a game. Iā€™ll admit late 90s, early 2000s until the lockout it was lower and as a result they reduced the size of the GK pads and other gear among some other rule changes which helped.

Yeah, I agree. We definitely could have done better for him, even if he isnā€™t playing well.

Yes.

idk... looking at GAA by season it was fairly low scoring before 1940. 70s and 80s were almost 4 most seasons, (Gretzky did a mad one in 1981-82 tbf scoring an insane 92 goals which may have crept that average up), lowest was 03-04, but then slowly crept back up again. This season it's nearly 3. And that's per team, so nearly 3 GAA/team = nearly 6 goals a game.

This year was definitely up, but I think out of any of ā€œourā€ sports, hockey and football share some similarities. I think thatā€™s what I was trying to get at in a half assed way. šŸ˜Š

semi-related but I was looking up Baseball as well when I was on the topic. This year and recent years have been extremely low scoring of late. minimal offense, just walks, strikeouts, or home runs. The league batting average is the lowest it's ever been so far this season. They need to do something because your average game is boring as hell to watch.

Everyone going Rangers today?
