April 2025 Spin Challenge – Well, this is puzzling…

Day 28 - Spin any record that was gifted to you

My mom and dad gave me this record (as in this very record) for Christmas in 1976.

I was always partial to this song and the dueling guitar outro. After Brad Delp's suicide, the lyrics took on a whole new, sadder meaning. Young me didn't recognize the pain in these words...

Day 29 – We are in Atlanta to see Pearl Jam! Spin any artist that you have traveled for or would love to travel to see. Can be another city, state or country

Just about a year ago I drove down to Atlanta (technically Alpharetta), met up with @Hemotep, had some killer grub and beers at Jack's Feed Store, moseyed over to the amphitheatre, got our faces melted off by Neil Young & Crazy Horse and I hopped back in the car to complete the 8 hour round trip.

Such a great night...

Ippu-Do (一風堂) - Night Mirage

Secret Santa present from D Jilla this past holiday season. This would've been a gloss over otherwise. Very appreciative of the gift. Recommended if you like other Japanese synthpop/technokayo of the era (Akiko Yano, Miharu Koshi, YMO, etc.).

Enjoy the show @threesunrises ! Here's some PJ in Atlanta for you!

Edited to add - I should respond to the prompt too! Saw PJ at Fenway in 2016. One of the best times I've seen them, and made / met a bunch of friends at this show that I still keep in touch with today.

Hikaru Utada (宇多田ヒカル) - DEEP RIVER

You know what country I'm talking about.
At this point, I can't see Hikki ever touring in the states (especially not Portland), so I'd be willing to center a trip next year or whenever they would be coming to one of the major three cities...then spending time majorly in the lesser populated surrounding cities or whatever.
Big Kingdom Hearts energy 😭

Orville Peck "Pony" (2019 Sub Pop)
I'm not a big country fan, but I dabble. Usually with artists that are off the usual beaten path of country. Of course, I enjoy Willie Nelson, because you know, as a much better writer than I put it, "could have been the Willie Nelson, could have been the wine". Add to that Sturgill, Cauthen, Cash, Lucinda. And then there is Orville Peck. He moved to Vancouver from South Africa at a young age and is now based out of Toronto. His voice harkens to Orbison, Morrissey, Isaak and Presley all mixed into one. And obviously, there's the glam theatricality associated with the mask. He's a complete contradiction for what country is supposed to be and I love it! Pony was a revelation when I first heard it. It's country music, but also rock and even a bit post punk (see Buffalo Run). I must also mention Turn To Hate, which such a banger! I even got my completely country averse wife to appreciate Orville. So I've never seen Orville perform, but he's on my short list and I'd travel to see him if possible. 🍁

Amythyst Kiah – Still + Bright

My wife and I hopped a ferry over to the mainland last year to see Amythyst open for Iron & Wine. I was absolutely overjoyed when I found out she was opening and, while I was excited to see Iron & Wine for the first time, I was even more excited to see her—and she did not disappoint!
