Vinyl Me Please Anthology

Speakers Corner, Pure Pleasure, Analog Spark... Music On Vinyl is hit and miss but can put out some pretty awesome stuff, but mostly digital transfers...

Those are all at a lower price point than MOFI or Analogue Productions.

Who distributes Pure Pleasure and Speakers Corner in the US? Acoustic Sounds does though their pricing isnt that great...

MOV is Music On Vinyl and they at least have a website though I'm not sure if they sell through it... But have a look...
i did look.. they have a website but sell nothing.. and their stores are only in europe so i can't really get anything from them

I don't know, I'm in Canada as I just generally grab them through locals or Amazon. You just have to be careful with Amazon to make sure REALLY sure you're ordering the right one...

Oh they sell MOVs all over the states. Deep discount sells tonnes of them, you just have to specifically look for the label on the websites when you're searching albums. Amazon has all the MOV stuff as well.

how do i know if im getting an MOV copy on amazon or a non MOV copy... just so i know

(also deep discount seems shady with these prices.. has to be some shady)

The easiest way is to either scroll down and look for the label listed, it should say Music on Vinyl, or find the album on Discogs that you want, and copy and paste the UPC code from the Discogs listing into the Amazon search bar. It's not foolproof but that usually works.

I also think that MOV pressings are labeled as "import" in the album title on Amazon since they do everything in the Netherlands.

I did not bite on this, but I'm excited for the people that did. I loved the last anthology because of the quality of the records, which was what I was in it for. If they pull off the same quality this time out then the Motown fans should be happy. Just don't expect anything to go right but the quality of the pressings and I'm sure that you'll love it. If they don't screw anything else up, then that's gravy. I have to admit that the look of the box is kick ass, but they are 0 for 1 on their promises on the boxes so far.

I like MOV a lot but wouldn't think of it as audiophile per se, more like it does things at a good price point the way they should be unlike most other labels that seem, at least some of the time, to cut pretty big corners. Juno's website allows you to search by label so you can get an idea of what they've got here Search Juno

I may be alone in this opinion, but the tables have kind of turned in this respect. We, the small vocal minority, are always called out for our opinions and "heated" comments, but when these albums don't sell as VMP expects, it's on their "core" user base, the majority that doesn't say anything, because in my opinion the vocal minority has a much more expansive enjoyment and understanding of music and all it's facets, male, female or otherwise. So when recent actions seem to indicate VMP going out of the way to stifle the vocal minority for fear of negative influence, wouldn't it stand to reason that we could sway it the opposite way as well?

But no, let's not listen to the vocal minority, we know not what we speak of. It's been mentioned in this thread already, and even though it hasn't sold out yet, if it sells in a relative amount of time there will be a Anthology III, IV and so on, as long as they have the base to support 1000 units sold, errors and all, there is no reason to stop producing them. Remember VMP took that turn into a "business" model first and foremost, so Its now more than ever only about the bottom line. Don't kid yourself into thinking it's anything but.

Both the BN and WM Anthology are fantastic ideas, I just can't support the company regardless of what I may miss out on, but there are plenty who do and that's fine. And for those, I always hope there are minimal issues if any.

I agree with everything you said other that the anthology being a good idea. It still seems like the most absolutely bizarre way to interact with music for me but I suppose if you’re going to do it anthology 2 is a fantastic choice to focus on.

Outside of a focus on jazz and blues, I think it is worth mentioning Rhino. Problem is, it is hard to be sure which ones are really up to audiophile standards and which aren't. Unfortunately research is required. There are some super well done gems in there AAA and digital, almost always in the low twenties price wise. I don't think since quite a while back I have heard of any of them being bad, some are just really great.

Just to be clear where you are thinking budget wise, with respect to MoFi are you saying $30-$35 is super expensive or are you thinking of the crazy one step ones?

I think they are the Warner’s equivalent of MOV and are again reissue label. They tend to be good pressings too.

Light in the Attic sell PP through their site. Here's a link to the upcoming Cecil McBee and Pharoah Sanders reissues. I've noticed in the past they seem to sell out quite quickly and I never really see them restock. At $32 they're pretty much a straight GBP to USD conversion so they seem well priced to me as there isn't any excessive import charges.

EDIT: Looks like they do Speakers Corner too. Here's the upcoming Elvin Jones and Charles Lloyd

I suppose I should amend my comment by saying the "Box Set" on it's own was/is a good idea...........the rest I could do without. You either are an active listener or your not (you can become one though), those that aren't will spin these at their usual pace and attention, those who usually are, don't need anyone telling them how to listen to their music. As a box set on its own, I think a lot of times it's a quick an easy way to cover or at least start a good foundation of a genre, artist or group. I can see where box sets are more appealing to those new-ish to vinyl, which I still think is a big percentage of VMP's core customer base.

I must admit, I'm the masochist that also bought this after gripping about all of Vol 1's errors, only b/c my wife and I adore Motown, AND they offered the after pay installments.

Now, even with after pay, I would have passed at $345.... I told myself $250 was my ceiling, so $265 over 4 payments made it easier to swallow with my life long love for Motown.
