I think insular is fair enough, I am very keen to see Death Grips spread beyond the internet. I don't see why they can't but its no mean feat for a group so recent and linked with it as they are.

On the topic of Kanye, apologies if maybe it wasn't that clear but I feel I was making a similar point to you. I guess I inferred Ye had at least heard Death Grips and was into it (I think this is extremely likely anyway), but immediately after I refer to them as both ripples of the same wave that goes all the way back to the 80s.

No one 'owns' abrasive experimental Hip-Hop, and for a very good reason that is symbolised in the story of this album. My opinion on which artist sounds more like the other with reference to Yeezus actually goes the other way, the most they ever sounded like each other was on the Death Grips album after that, Government Plates.
It really took until this week for Blonde to click for me, can't believe it never sounded like this before.

@BoilerRhapsody do you know what made it just click for you? I always find that interesting. I have a buddy who insists that he hates some albums when they come out, then 6 months later I’ll get a 2AM text from him saying “wow. This album is incredible” haha.

ngl, i am definitely on the "took me a couple of months after it came out to actually love it" train. at first, i was just disappointed bc i liked endless more and thought that project had more interesting bits, and i guess at the time i was just not into ambient pop, so i wrote it off for that at first. it was when i stopped thinking with these prejudices in mind that it finally then clicked for me months later

@MikeH Well to be honest the main thing was just listening to it high on my good system, alone with plenty of time to take it in. But out of the blue recently I realised I didn't know the full Frank story, so I listened to Nostalgia Ultra and Endless for the first time, and I'm part way through the Dissect season on Frank too, that bit of context always helps.

Is it just me or is 2021 turning out to be a particularly good year for music? Pandemic effect maybe?
People suddenly trying to flip the most collected record on Discogs is wild. Nearly 42,000 people have RAM in their collections already, I don't think there are too many more that desperate to get it.

@MikeH Listening to RAM for me is like listening to Rumours... pure well-made pop candy that doesn't overstay it's welcome over the years. But I'm not going to try to change anyone's mind. I think we find our own way towards albums that make us feel like this and they're not the same for everyone. For the record, my DP order is Discovery > RAM > Homework >>> Human After All.

@GritNGlitter it wasn't you specifically... many came out to do that since yesterday. It's ok. I'll get over it :)

As time goes by I lean further and further into liking something = its good, not liking it = bad and there is no difference between the two concepts.
The world's largest annual public music poll, Triple J's Hottest 100 has just opened voting for the Hottest 100 of the 2010s. Get a vote in:

So whos going to drop the last big album of 2019, and top off the 2010s? Kendrick, Frank Ocean, Kanye West, Tame Impala? Childish Gambino? Lady Gaga? Adele?

    @ayayrawn - don't tease me. Is this a possibility?

@Teeeee El-P said last year he expected in to drop around summer of 2019. Obviously that didn't happen, but him and mike have posted lyrics from RTJ4, pics of a production studio with #RTJ4, and announced in May they were producing it with Rick Rubin. My guess is December or early next year it drops.

YESSSSS!!!!!! But also - I dislike Dec/Jan drops. Because, if dropped in Dec, they get overlooked for year end lists. Or if dropped in Jan, they get forgotten for year end lists.
Will soon be moving all my records 500+km in cardboard boxes via car. Thoughts on using boxes a little too wide and filling the gap along the spines with more records sitting perpendicular to the rest? Safe? I guess its just most important they are padded and can't move around in the box/not stacked vertically right?

I would not move records in a cardboard box. I’ll be hoping the best for you.

Odyssey crates are what I use. Yes, they are expensive and yes they take up permanent space but there is nothing better either for moving or long term storage. I would construct my own temp ones out of plywood before using cardboard boxes, though. Crates of this caliber go on the bottom and support everything else in a moving truck.
Thought it was time we had a Nick Cave thread here:

Come share your thoughts on the new album.
On one hand this is the lamest shit ever, but on the other hand I just bought and listened to The Dark Side of the Moon on vinyl for the first time and its still the best ever album.

This is truth. Occasionally I'll have a day where i listen to Pink Floyd's Dark Side, Flaming Lips version, followed by Doom Side Of The Moon. Blows my mind how the work can be interpreted so differently and still retain the impact
I had a goal to listen to at least 1 album I've never heard every single day this year, today was the first day I forgot 😔
Anyone here into DIY audio/projects? I don't think I've ever seen it mentioned so I made a thread:

this is a great idea and I am excited to geek out at this thread even if I myself can't contribute! Random question: how often do you encounter tiny smashed up bugs inside of stuff?
    BoilerRhapsody

That is a random question. Not too often, but most of my experience lies outside consumer electronics, where I'm sure there are a lot more bugs. Most equipment I opened up came from a ship, so it had either been on fire or full of salt.
Just deleted 1752 emails from Vinyl Me, Please. TBH I always thought that was kind of a dumb name.
I've never started a thread in this community before so here goes:
