The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

I won't get to listen to this until this afternoon but you all have me very interested.
A word of warning, the band set out to make an unlistenable album. I think the most successful aspect of this is the way the songs end. They just stop and there is often a silence before the next track starts. It is very jarring. Beyond that, I find it very interesting and almost meditative at times.

I wish I knew German though. Dude is yelling at me and I don’t know the language, makes it all more menacing somehow.

Their later stuff is less… abrasive.

I’d easily say this is the “artsiest” release we’ve encountered.

I am impressed that they included them. Definitely like tossing a hand grenade into the mix with this album.

I still like their stuff, though Alien Pop Music (2024) is a million miles away from this record. Alien Pop Music could be a Nick Cave album

I took a peak and Throbbing Gristle and Faust make the list too. Guess if you are gonna throw Ministry and NIN in the mix, it’s helpful to acknowledge how that happened.

Not my cup of tea, but I can appreciate it. I do wonder how specific the arrangements were on this during the recording. Like was each song just recorded in / edited to a single take or was there a greater vision that came together in terms of song structure. For example - ok, we need 4 bars of jackhammer here, and then 2 bars of breaking glass, then repeat.

You’ve given me a vision of an orchestral hall with jack hammers and drills with glass at the ready as well as intricate percussion sets made out of reclaimed plumping with a dude in tails conducting them. Lol
