Tomorrow Comes Today (The Gorillaz Thread)

They also sent this email out this morning... very curious to see what this is leading up to. Sounds to me like a potential compilation of rarities/unreleased tracks from throughout their career.

That's what I initially thought as well...

That was my guess. Maybe one of the old rsd releases getting a wider release? Has the spacemonkeyz album been repressed at all? Maybe that?

Curious what he's been cookin. Loved Song Machine but Cracker Island did nothing for me.
Coincidentally enough I just relistened to Cracker Island the other night to see if it's grown on me at all and I'm still not quite sure what to make of it. I feel like in theory a lot of the songs have the makings of a decent Gorillaz tune but there's just an overpolished sheen to the production that prevents me from engaging with them as much as I should.

I recall Damon saying in an interview (I believe pre-Cracker Island?) that he was working on a Gorillaz album that was more reminiscent of the debut in style, so unless he's scrapped that completely I'm kind of keeping my fingers crossed maybe this new record is what he was talking about. I like a lot of what he's done with the project post-Plastic Beach but I do miss when Gorillaz was more of an excuse for him to fuck around and play with whatever genre he felt like doing that day. As much as I love Damon I think the reality is that another "Clint Eastwood" or "Feel Good Inc." level pop hit probably isn't in the cards for Gorillaz in 2025 so he's probably better off not chasing that high.
