Guitar Players Thread

It is done :)

Pickups are twin-sound Jaguar pickups made by the Creamery, each attached to their own three way switch. Each pickup has the option of modern or classic wiring.
HOWEVER, the classic wiring sound is a bit quieter. To combat that and create even leveling, the chicken head knob is an Artec QTB gain boost so I can match pickup output levels onboard.

I am really, really happy with this one :)
This thing looks awesome. I almost missed that pickup under the bridge too.

Got a new guitar teacher this year (former instructor just moved). It's interesting to see totally different approaches to gear. My previous instructor was all about traditional pedals, tube amps, and was usually pulling a Fender or PRS off the wall for the day.

New instructor had a Strandberg, Headrush MX5, and Headrush FRFR.
I will say, for teaching and gigging I REALLY see the appeal to the modern approach. He was so quickly able to pull up any sound we talked about. And honestly, he could probably pull all the gear from his trunk to the lesson room in one quick trip. Just a random thought to see two totally different approaches to the craft. It'll be interesting to discuss it more over time.

P-Rails with triple-shot pickup rings for series, parallel, P90, and single coil options. Middle pickup is an Antiquity 90 bridge pickup.

Each pickup has on-off switches, and there is a Jaguar style tone cut switch. The behind-the-bridge pickup is activated and volume controlled with its own push-pull pot.

Between volume and tone knobs is a Boffin FX 3-tone switch for different capacitor options on the tone knob.

I am in love with this :)

Super cool!

Anyone here messed around with an HX One?

I’m considering downsizing my pedalboard and using of these as a catchall between the other pedals that will carry over. My goal is 4 pedals to cover almost everything.

Anyone have any experience with Carvin/Kiesel guitars?

I've always wanted to get one, the ability to pick and choose all the details is rad, to me.
I just purchased a Kiesel Craig Chaquico Signature model - they were running a Father’s Day weekend discount for “in stocks” and just happened to have one of these in stock. I have wanted one for years - have not figured out what combination of effects Chaquico uses for his New Age work yet. If it is his fingers, I may be out of luck. Bought a Blackstar Sonnet 120 to use with it and the tone is excellent with this guitar. Fit and finish are exemplary with only one thing I can pick at - the action is a touch too low. It is too easy to “buzz” the low E and A strings. I have an “unfinished” saddle that I have not got around to sanding to a better height yet. Definitely a keeper guitar!

After taking a few years off from playing.... I'm back! Dug the guitar and pedalboard out of the basement.

Has anyone ever used Amplitube? I love playing around with pedals but kind of tempted to get an interface just to mess around with it. Probably would just start with the free version to get a feel.

you know what, I was cleaning up ye olde PIFfe thread google doc and I came across this post by @imtheocean and instead of being like "YOU KNOW WHAT I COULD USE SOME FREE REKKIDS" I saw the bass tab book and I thought.....how many fucking bass players are there here anyway? offhand I know @scotthilk and I play the big guitars with less strings, and I guess @imtheocean does too but I am willing to bet we got at least three or 4 more just....lurkin'

All about the bass!

I'm with @trickyseven . I dabble, but steadily improving.

A month or so ago I jammed (for the first time!) with a friend; my main takeaway was he brought his bass and I found it to be a lot of fun. I found the process of playing along with someone or trying to suss out an existing song’s bass line to be a lot more intuitive than playing the guitar.

I ended up cruising a few secondhand instrument shops and found a custom bass:

It’s been pretty fun so far, humbling as well; thinking about groove and rhythm over melody is a difference headspace. Now I’m hearing only the bass in every song.
Any advice for a new bassist? ETA: I just scrolled up to see @yukbon initiating bass discussion. I guess you can add me to the list of dabblers/slappers.

simple grooves to get you started:
a LOT of Cure songs have pretty simple lines that are fun to play
jane's addiction -- eric avery's pretty steady and basically holding that band together. guitarist is out there, drummer is out there, singer is out there, bass is the only thing keeping shit on lock
black sabbath, the ur-metal band.
a lot of your classic rock: AC/DC obvs, aerosmith, kiss

harder than you'd imagine:
CCR is deceptively harder than you'd think
grateful dead. i don't know what the fuck phil lesh is doing half the time.
primus (although it's not as hard as you THINK it is. The trick is light strings and you're not playing bass, you're playing FLAMENCO bass)
motown of all flavors, but specifically everything james jamerson.

when you go to change strings (and it's gonna be a while! bass strings last forever. I've had my current set on my main bass for going on 15 years), maybe try out some flatwounds, it's way different.
