The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

Game changer!

I hope you have a similar experience to @Nee Lewman and me...
We had Everything Must Go back in February, and I liked it overall, but it didn't really blow me away. This album is a whole different beast. 6 tracks in so far and it is INTENSE. Read through the wiki too, which is a wild read. Had no idea about the story behind Richey Edwards.

I made my thoughts known on the Rolling Stones the last time we got an album from them. This one didn't really do anything for me to improve their standing.
It’s crazy. This comment inspired me t flip on Exile and I have a tough time figuring how someone who enjoys rock music could not be completely enthralled by the time the horns kick in on “Rocks Off”.

This is what I said when I pulled this previously in 2023:

Do I have to?

I've actually never listened to this. I was done with them after Blood Sugar Sex Magic. I like the craziness of the early stuff and thought they started to be less so after BSSM. I do quite like I'm With You and The Getaway. None of the singles I heard in between did anything for me. Unlimited Love was forgettable and I have not listed to the one with the awful cover that followed. I'll report back.

I was getting ready to say this wasn't as bad as I expected it to be, then Get on Top started.

Surprisingly didn't hate it. I'm not gonna buy it, but it wasn't offensive. I could go the rest of my life without hearing Get on Top and Californication ever again though. Clearly, they had stepped firmly into their elder classic rock statesman role at this point.
We’ll see what a second listen feels like.

I am not the biggest Red Hot Chili Peppers fan I don’t hate them and I really love flea and John Frusciante in particular. On the whole I would probably rather listen to Californication and By The Way all the way through than Blood Sugar Sex Magik though there were some fantastic singles on that album. TBH, even the Dave Navarro album, One Hot Minute has some quality singles even if the albums as a whole was a bit mediocre.

My all time favorite RHCP song was off The Coneheads soundtrack, “Soul 2 Squeeze” so I would probably be better served with a nice career spanking greatest hits collection than any specific studio album.

The length of this and BSSM don’t help them. This is less of a slog though. I don’t know By the Way at all.

The band is very talented.

I have a copy of BSSM and I think I thought I liked it back in the 90s. I listened to it probably 5 years ago, maybe longer, and I just hated it with an unreal passion. It’s just fundamentally terrible and unlikable and it just hurts my brain.
