Record Store Day 2025

It’s a bit of a crapshoot on some titles. Sun Ra came way down for a bit, but now the cheapest copy is only $13 less than what I paid after shipping.

The weirdest one is Jazz Dispensary - Night Lights. Those comps have been easy get cheap (after the heart of the pandemic), so I did not buy this one on RSD. After days of very few US sales, a bunch came up yesterday, and I am the first of four buyers at $33 b4 shipping yesterday. The shop issued a tracking number within 2 minutes of the purchase and sold 4 copies at that price, so I’m a little suspicious bc it still hasn’t actually shipped. But the shop has 5k ratings so hopefully no issues.

Wondering if Craft allocated more of this year’s comp to Europe than usual given how few copies have been available on Discogs from the U.S. Also won’t be shocked if they issue it on black vinyl given how well it’s done.

Then Thievery Corporation - Cosmic Game is another interesting one. I had it on my “in case I see it on RSD list,” and I saw it, and the shop did not have Sun Ra so I figured, I’d spend some of the money I allocated to Sun Ra. Turns out to be one of the more in demand titles, and it sounds really, really good, although I’m not sure it’s different than previous cuts (except red vinyl).

yes--i have been really surprised by night lights. i always wait on those and get at a discount. this one has been really hard to find after the initial online drops. hoping some other copies come out soon.

I struck out with Tim as well. Probably will have to go the Discogs route but don't want to buy from the US as I am afraid of get hit for customs duties. Might just have to pick up a copy from Europe. Then I will just get rid of my OG copy

my favorite thing from this year's batch of things that I grabbed was the Bobby Charles LP. I think most of it was on the deluxe edition of his self titled a few years back, but that thing is exceptionally rare in the wild and some of these are maybe better than what made the album. It seems to still be floating around some stores I've been to this week, so I think it'll hang around a bit but worth a blind grab for the right price.

Any reviews (good or bad) of RSD 2025 purchases now that you've had a chance to listen to them? (I mean, you wouldn't just buy an RSD release and leave it sitting there unopened and unplayed, right? 😉)
The Lemonheads in Dreamland is fine for what it is which is just Evan Dando recording acoustic covers on a 4-track but the material is good if that’s your thing (it’s mine). The STP and the Jerry Garcia Band (which I am listening to right now) Live albums are both quality live performances and good live recordings. Still have 3 others to get on the turntable so I will have to report back on those a bit later.

Well, today sucks. Ordered the STP record. Had it sent to the office because package disappear in my neighborhood. Tracking says it was delivered at 11:06. The lady who works the front desk wasn’t here then and no one has seen it. Which means, the front door was probably locked and he set it down outside and it walked off. The real kicker is, my son is on spring break this week and would have been home to get it if I had it sent to my house.
