"drawn out, dull and self referential" is how i would describe my feelings on a lot of albums the hype machine happens to land on around here tbh

(of course ironically enough you hate one of the few i actually agree with the zeitgeist on never change, grumpy joe!)

Hahahaha! Thanks gap! I wanted to like them as a post-punk style act but I just get a huge whiff of “poseur” off it lol.

I listened. It’s okay with some interesting musical interludes. As a big fan of sunglasses I was let down how much of the album is more of the same. I wonder how much less I would like sunglasses had I first heard it in the middle of this album. As it stands though, sunglasses is an epic treat.

for me, Black Country New Road falls into the same category as Black Midi and the last Daughters album: "Perfectly fine experimental post-punk that was done a hundred times better in the 80s". I don't mind it, but I'd forego it for a Slint or This Heat record any day of the week

What do you mean by self-referential? I haven't listened to the album so I'm not asking you to defend the position. I just literally don't know what that means - like do they have a leitmotif running through the album?
