I listened. It’s okay with some interesting musical interludes. As a big fan of sunglasses I was let down how much of the album is more of the same. I wonder how much less I would like sunglasses had I first heard it in the middle of this album. As it stands though, sunglasses is an epic treat.
for me, Black Country New Road falls into the same category as Black Midi and the last Daughters album: "Perfectly fine experimental post-punk that was done a hundred times better in the 80s". I don't mind it, but I'd forego it for a Slint or This Heat record any day of the week
What do you mean by self-referential? I haven't listened to the album so I'm not asking you to defend the position. I just literally don't know what that means - like do they have a leitmotif running through the album?
