Is this a USPS wide policy now? Is this posted somewhere?
I know it was a policy in the past to spot check, but not EVERY media mail package. Glad I insure everyone of my packages since I'm sure some knuckle head is going to take a razor blade too deep one of these days...
With the sheer amount of daily mail I doubt even if this is a new policy that it will affect anyone particularly frequently... They don't have the manpower to open even a fraction of a fraction of the outgoing mail.
I doubt it's all of them too, they just told me that it would be happening regularly now. My guess is they maybe weren't enforcing it much and are planning to now. Either way it's dumb.
I'm shocked that the US even still has media mail. It's an antiquated leftover from a time when media between actual media outlets had to be sent through the mail. Which hasn't been necessary for like... 40 years. You guys are so damn lucky they haven't canned it yet.
So they're going to spend more time and effort to inspect a package in hopes that it will convince me to spend double on shipping? Makes sense.
I have 2 post offices less than a mile from work and they have a super weird rivalry towards each other. I'll just tell them I'll start dropping off my packages at the other one
@Mather I don't know how true this is, but I heard there were big pushes by disability rights groups to keep it since they often received more physical media by necessity since the digital takeover began. But I have some colleagues who are blind, for instance, and the tech for digital interfaces is amazing for them now.
I imagine that this will affect things like books or DVDs more? Record mailers are kind of....limited in their utility of shipping non-MM eligible items.
