It was a David Ramirez record that was originally released through Pledge Music and signed, limited to 250 copies at most. I at least take solace knowing that I really doubt it will ever be pressed again.
I have spent $75 on a few records but nothing close to $200 ever. David Ramirez is one of my favorite artists and my collection of his is now complete.
Yeah I was a bit new at the time and didn't realize how much of a gamble a 81 sealed record was. I got very very lucky that it was perfect once opened.
$125 or whatever for the Bill Evans Village Vanguard one step… unless we start talking box sets and then I think the Bowie A New Career in a New Town box/VMP Blue Note box…?
$200 Canadian for Mono Magical Mystery Tour, $140 for a VG+ MoFi Ziggy Stardust. No regrets. FWIW, that Bowie is one of the few records that caused me to exclaim “holy shit” whilst listening. Just about when the guitars kicked in for Suffragette City….
Do you count boxsets? if so probably the Yoshiko Sai boxset. That was about $304. If only single albums - it was Amon Tobin - Permutation which i got for about $118. I just recently bought a reissue for 37 bucks... It was a white whale and i waited for many many years but still kinda regret that one.
$150, during quarantine, for a copy of Karp - Self-Titled. not a regular habit but i had a pretty healthy flipping business going during lockdown and could justify it after MANY years of seeking a cheaper copy—which I subsequently found last year at a Half Price Books, and flipped for enough to pay for both copies.
i underbid on one of my white whales a few years ago, not really understanding just how rare it is. could have had it for $150 then but since the shoegaze revival and the overall rarity of the album, i'd be lucky to get it for twice that now.
