Under Preferences -> E-mail Options I unchecked all 3. Haven't received an e-mail in 5 years

I would help but when I went to my preferences, I saw that I was signed up to get all kinds of emails I don’t actually get and skeedaddled before I broke something and started getting emails.

Mine are all unchecked but still getting them. Maybe it takes the serves a second to catch up but hopefully it stops cause my gmail is bursting at the seams

I've never looked at that and all mine are checked - never get emails, though....so I left it alone.

OMG I never knew this, I just filtered all the email notifications in gmail to the trash
