It has a lot to do with it. If she wants to create a barrier between her fans and her, her political choice is one way to do that. She said she didn’t feel compelled and people should research and make up their own mind.
I don’t disagree that this election is consequential. I also think that one of the things keeping it close is that we all feel privileged to tell people how to vote but we aren’t doing the work to see why people feel the way they do and what leads to people who shouldn’t be voting for Trump doing just that.
Lol. Trump has made his positions on everything extremely clear since 2015, I fucking hate this rhetoric of “Oh we just need to understand WHY these people are voting for this vile racist rapist Nazi”. These are adults, not children being goated into doing something they don’t understand. Adults can take responsibility for their decisions.
And Chapelle Roans entire career is built on the backs of queer and trans fans. Endorsing the opponent of a candidate as directly harmful to the community as Trump is literally the least you can do. The net message is “Thanks for all the money guys, but I won’t do shit about this direct attack on your lives”.
People are complicated and make decisions for their own reasons. Yes there are plenty of racist people backing him. There are also plenty of people who just want something different than the same old shit from both sides of the aisle.
Jesus Christ, if you vote for Donald trump at the veeeeey least, you’re looking past the vitriolic racism, violent fascist rhetoric, a felony rape conviction etc if not outright supporting it. Stop trying to play defense for people actively helping overthrow democracy. I really thought better of you man.
You don't have to endorse someone publicly to vote for them. As a member of the queer community and a long time Chappell fan, I've never and will never vote for a repub. But, the dems aren't the shining light you think they are. Her non endorsement doesn't indicate how she'll vote. I'm very anti dem right now, and there's a good chance I'll vote for Harris.
Just playing the comparison game at this point alone further normalizes Trump. Save the criticism untill after we’ve defeated this rapist monster and preserved democracy. It’s literally the least you can do, but Chapelle couldn’t do that, but still goes to bed at night thinking she’s helping the queer community.
I’m also in that community, I’m bi and non binary. Fuck Chapelle Roan.
Honestly, a celeb endorsing or not endorsing a political candidate has close to zero effect on my life. Unless said celeb endorses Trump, then they're dead to me.
@LiamGallaghersBucketHat where I live, the dems control the state house. Also they've proposed and passed a number of anti-trans bills in the last two years under the guise of parental rights. Yes, the Republicans appear to actively hate me. But my local dems are actively doing harm to people like me.
@JonnyH Sure, but you can’t stay silent when also championing yourself a hero in the community. Someone who really cared would do something, especially when it’s as simple as an endorsement. Playing the “both sides” game in 2024 is so fucking ridiculous I can’t stand it.
I’m not gonna defend Trump or the republicans, that’s not what I’m trying to do and not my intention. But the longer we keep telling people what they have to do instead of listening to them and then acting for them and everyone else… the longer we will have this big divide and the longer our politics will be divisive sycophants working for everyone but the people
Also your local parties and their actions really have jack shit to do with this national election at the moment. Complain all you want after we’ve saved democracy.
@Nee Lewman Bro, you’re asking to have a dialogue with people who actively wish me dead. There’s no basis for communication there.
Again, you’re trying to “both sides” this whole thing when it’s only one side that’s actively working to turn the country into a theocratic dictatorship. Shame on you
@DJSJ that's the thing. I'm pretty sure we live in an oligarchy and not a democracy. Harris is winning my state, hands down, no doubt about it. My vote for her is literally meaningless in November. If I lived in CO, PA, or MO, then I'd know I'm 100% voting for her. But I have the privilege to vote elsewhere if I want to, and I'm going to explore all of those options first.
