I didn't do it, but gave it some thought when I recently put up my Kallax. But I guess I just love the way a boxset looks, so for now they are still boxed.
also thought about it but couldn't bring myself to do it. The dilemma is what to do with the boxes unless I also keep them on the shelf - but then I have much less room.
I believe a lot of people on here do this. I actually like keeping them in the box. In some ways for me, it makes them more visible and likely to spin. Guess I'm a bit your opposite in that regard.
@Turbo I am more likely to put a box that has the side open as opposed to a lid on the shelf as it is not as much of a chore. Or when it’s a single album. I am thinking of correcting this with other boxes currently on the shelf. But things like the mono Beatles box? Never going back in the box/
@avecigrec remembers correctly. I highly recommend this if you even slightly lazy. The box sets a books and booklets are nice but they take up a sizable chunk of shelf space and individual albums get listened to a lot more often since it takes less effort to pull them out.
It’s less commitment too. If I wanna listen to a single John Prine record I can now do that guilt free but before the unboxing, if I wanted to listen to Common Sense I would feel like I needed to listen to the whole Atlantic Years set since I had it out, but since I didn’t want to commit to listening to the entire box set I would just end up listening to to a Townes Van Zandt album instead.
