Funny and true. Those early years with the actual music videos were a lot of fun though. Was listening to an 80s one hit wonders playlist the other day, and I was able to recall the accompanying videos in my head for most of the songs.
The worst part is how MTV hides form their past. Do you know how many people would watch the shit out of some 80's and 90's MTV content? Even the "MTV Classic" channel that they marketed as being such a thing is garbage.
@dbarila they also like to say over and over that music doesn't get ratings and that no body is turning on the TV to listen to music in the age of streaming / the internet. They pretty much say music is not profitable, therefore that is not who we are anymore. I kind of miss the MTV digital cable channels that play only music. Those were my jam in the early 2000's after MTV stopped playing music.
But MTV doesn't make them available on streaming platforms like Hulu Live. I would need Comcast to get them. And last I checked, they aren't just music anymore, but old MTV Reality TV Reruns.
When Mtv2 first came around it was 24/7 music videos. Usually just a mix of whatever the fuck. Sometimes they would just play every music video they had in alphabetical order. I miss that. We had an old school satellite dish so I got east coast and west coast feeds. If I saw a video I liked on the east coast feed I could watch it again 3 hours later .
When Digital Cable first became a thing, I was lucky enough to catch the last year or two that Much Music was available in the United States before it fully transition to MMUSA and was rebranded as Fuse. I loved Much Music, uncensored music videos, a focus still on music (it was before they went the path of MTV) and exposure to music that we didn't get in the United States market.
