I moved as an adult with two infants to a different part of my state (few hours away) due mostly to cost of living and wanting to start a business. It’s worked out, even if I miss the bigger city a fair amount
The biggest difficulty for us is that my fiancée works at Costco and I am a golf pro. She will have the same income any warehouse she gets accepted at, I would have limited options and likely make 50% less. I am so risk averse that it makes it hard to contemplate, but so is living here forever.
Yes, for culture reasons but also for a job. I moved from a very liberal state to a very, very liberal state. I ended up moving back because of cost of living was too expensive in that state but don't regret it.
I think it requires a balancing act for sure. It sounds like you at least would have a decent base to start off, but I think picking somewhere with growth potential (even if you're not at the future level immediately) is important. I don't know a lot about being a golf pro, but I imagine those skills can be leveraged eventually into an entrepreneurial or management level of a golf course down the road.
Golf Pro means I already run the golf course, there’s no money in my industry, guaranteed I’ll never make as much as I do now working anywhere else. I think my goal should be to continue to save and hopefully I can justify the loss in income by moving somewhere I can make an enormous down payment on a house.
Which region are you thinking of moving to? Here in Phoenix, golf is basically happening 247/365, so maybe you could recoup some funds by just working more. There's also dozens of Costcos.
Phoenix is my top choice, Tucson is second. Golf courses are plentiful, but it’s one of the worst regions for pay. The warehouses are also plentiful, and transferring would be possible but harder than most regions. My dream would be Phoenix and be able to work part time at The In Groove along with a golf job.
Tucson, I have a coworker whom could set me up with a golf job there, houses are affordable there and Phoenix. I haven’t visited Tucson, I went to Phoenix twice last year, I would have no problem with the heat in the summer, but there’s so many people there in peak season, however I don’t go out and the freeways there are amazing.
