MoFi UltraDeck / StudioDeck Owners and those interested

Just a friendly reminder to grease your bearing. Quick fix to a slight speed warble we were getting. Probably would have been better for me to do it out of routine instead of need.

They've got Roon ready on the website, so I'm sure they got that taken care of.

Has anyone had the chance to hear the Auralic Vega S1? I've become very curious about that unit, but it seems like so few dealers carry the brand these days. But I always loved their products that I heard years ago.

I mean if you're spending $20k on a TT, you're probably spending at least $5k on a cartridge and several thousand on a phonostage. Gets you into a 6 figure system pretty quick when you've spending $30k+ on your vinyl front end. I'm not saying spending more gets you a better system every time...

I think surrounding equipment is a major factor here. Plug in a G and an R to a $10-20k system, entry level MC cart, and $1-2k phonostage, probably walk away saying you could barely tell the difference. But do the same test with flagship 6 figure system, a $10k+ cartridge, etc… I bet you feel...

I generally agree with you. For the $10k upcharge of their plinth and arm, I think I'd go a different direction. It is a 10" arm, but still not one I'd likely take as a first pick. The only advantage I can think of is that they do have a series of arm boards available to bolt into that specific...

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in this hobby, it’s that people get WAY too hung up on measurements, and it’s almost always justified by spending less.

Let's See What Makes Your Vinyl Spin!

Exactly. Plus people assume all audiophiles WANT to learn how to do this. I am fine knowing the basics well enough to do a cheap cart, but I really don’t want to invest in the tools or the time to learn to do this well.

Yeah, I was initially thinking he'd ask me to bring it in, but he said it's much better to dial it in there through my system directly. Also pointed out that every movement slightly impacts the other settings. So change the tracking force by 0.2, now the alignment is off by portions of a mm...

Let's See What Makes Your Vinyl Spin!

Absolutely, and that's why I mentioned that it might be overkill. That's how I felt about speaker set up, and then I had someone who does this for a living set up my speakers. Did more in 3 hours than I did in 2 years. Yes, I was 90% of the way there. But getting that extra 10% was a lot more...

Let's See What Makes Your Vinyl Spin!

If you think you have the same setup abilities as a seasoned pro that runs a hifi shop as a business, I would be willing to bet that most people do not. Maybe over kill, but peace of mind can have a price. After watching the process, I know for a fact I would not have reached the save level of...

That's what I thought about Tidal.... and then one day there it was. The real question is what comes first, the previously announced Spotify Hifi or the hypothetical Qobus Connect?

The Dark Side; Digital audio equipment recommendations and setup.

I think if you're just using Tidal, Roon isn't worth the cost or extra program to connect and learn. Tidal Connect makes Roon fully duplicative for me. Roon starts to make sense for streaming services without a Connect feature, if you have local files, or you want to effectively use multiple...

Cables - one of the most taboo subjects in audio

That’s fair, lol. The way I look at is the existing gear + cable is still less than the next level equipment upgrade, so it’s more of a tweak. It’s also a foundation piece that can remain with me for future upgrades. But overall, much easier for me to justify because everything I would...

Cables - one of the most taboo subjects in audio

It has been a little more this year, but realistically I normally only change 1-2 things a year. Normally in Q1 after we've planned for the year and bonuses come in. But I haven't changed any actual components in almost 5 years.

Cables - one of the most taboo subjects in audio

Quick cable experiment update, going deeper into the speculative world of power cables. I currently have an Audioquest hurricane on my dac, and I decided I should try it on my Sutherland 20/20 LPS. This was a good news/bad news outcome, speaking from terms of my wallet. The bad news is this...
