I think I’ve done a complete 180 on the new Corinne Bailey Rae album. I was really disappointed with it initially, but I’m really starting to dig the clangy & challenging nature of it.
The choreography, to my eyes, consisted of a hair touch into a twerk, which was then repeated over and over until the song was over. And then it was all repeated for the second song, which felt like it was 1:45 long. I dunno what I was expecting, but more effort was certainly one thing.
I’m an old, so I don’t want to paint with broad strokes. That said, there are plenty of contemporary artists I don’t get in terms of the popularity of their music, but that I can at least respect in terms of their commitment to their live performances. That was just really uninspired and not...
I’m definitely not the target audience for her music, but, I watched Ice Spice on SNL last night, and…does she usually put forth that little effort in her performances? Maybe it was a cover for nerves or something, but she looked rather bored.
Not calling you out here. Just the general notion that this particular band has become the poster child for everything that is wrong with vinyl and the music biz in general. I think as consumers, we need to own up to the fact that our FOMO/addiction contributes more to all of those troubles than...
How is the 1 year anniversary version with extra songs really any different from the deluxe edition of an album released a year later? That has been done for years. People don’t shit on Norah Jones at every turn for doing the same thing in the CD era. Because CDs were cheaper than vinyl?
I hate that trend a lot. But it has been around in some form for years. I don’t really double dip when it come to vinyl. I’ll stream the additional songs, or maybe even download them if they’re good. As was stated earlier, we don’t have to buy multiple variants and versions. That’s more due the...
And, again, as much as I dislike the Deluxe Version immediate re-release bit, I’m not going to join in on the Pumas backlash bandwagon tour. I’m not going to fault any band for reissuing and repackaging, or releasing merch out the ass during a pandemic.
Are you talking about the version they put out during 2020 with the additional songs? Maybe they were the first to do it on vinyl, but, I distinctly remember sweet little Norah Jones doing the same thing for multiple CD releases back in the mid-aughts.
Finally have 20 albums that are year end list worthy. It has felt like tough sledding all year. And honestly, I could use 2-3 really good albums before the end of the year to bolster the bottom of that list.
New season of Austin City Limits kicks off this weekend with Rodrigo y Gabriela featuring the Austin Symphony Orchestra. I caught the tail end of the stream of the taping months back, and what little I saw was incredible. Check your local PBS listings for airtimes, but I think this has the...
@Corycm Been wondering all the same things as of late. I still love “14 Songs”, and his other solo albums have their moments too. Saw him in 2005, and he was really good. He’s ripe for the Johnny Cash comeback formula, but, knowing Paul, he just doesn’t care to drink it.
