    What's Spinning

So that's it. It took me over a year (with 2 extended hiatus while away from home), but I managed to play every record in my shelf. Of course, there have been some albums that I've purchased during the process, and that I haven't included in my little project, since their place in the shelf had...

Hub Tones is one of my favorite releases of the latest BN reissue campagins. The compositions and performances on that album are fantastic, and the reissue is very good too.

I mean, we all have a very surface level undertanding of jazz when compared to one of the genre's most important figures of the last 50 years. That can't stop us from enjoying it, though. I would love to hear Keith playing in a Trio setting again, and I'm sure I wouldn't be able to tell much of...

Man, Gary was (is? ) one of the goats. His work with the Keith Jarrett Trio, among many others is brilliant. I know he stopped playing a couple of years ago due to some health issues. Jarrett said that basically discouraged him from ever playing with a bass player again, since he would never...

Yeah, that's the one I'm talking about. I find the 3LP boxset a little too pricey, and I don't really care too much about the reduced tracklist (The album has that same tracklist on Spotify, which is where I have streamed it). I've always found it a little too expensive for a 2LP, but the...

Anyone here grabbed the Charles Lloyd live album released back in February? I've streamed it a handful of times and love the music, but I haven't heard any comments on the sound quality of the vinyl. The record isn't exactly cheap, so I would like to know beforehand.

I just ordered "It's time!!!!!!". This, along with Shorter, is probably the Tone Poet release I've been more excited about! I've loved pretty much every reissue, but this is one of the albums I looked forward to the most.

    Jazz

Yeah, I'm not a fan of his either, especially given his racist comments towards the culture that he has stolen borrowed from. I think these graphs can't really tell us much about how "good" or "bad" a musician is, though, they only tell a couple of things about the way they approach melodies...

    Jazz

That would be awesome. Also, in the case of jazz, it would be dope if the notes belonging to the underlying key or chord were in a different color to those outside the key or chord. Im sure the solos of say Paul Desmond and John Coltrane would look very different in that regard.

    Jazz

Yeah, those trills have to be at least part of the reason. But anyway, the graph of his solo is super complex. The notes at the center have a ton of connections, something that I think has to do with his inventiveness when building up a solo. He repeated himself very little thoughout a solo, but...

    Jazz

I have no idea where to share this, so I'll just post here: I came across a scholar paper called " On the Modeling of Musical Solos as Complex Networks ". The author basically takes solos from different musicians and maps the relations between the different notes using a software. Each note is...

I love those two records, but I think they lean more towards Post Bop, and sometimes even Free Jazz (especially Andrew Hill). @VinylGuy if hard bop and modal are your thing, pretty much all the TP reissues will please you. Definitely give Shorter and Hill a listen, but I would also suggest Lee...

IIRC there wasn't a price difference, but the marbled one was more limited and sold out on pre-order. I'm assuming they ran out of that variant, so they sent a standard B&W variant as a replacement. I mean, there's no big deal, but the marbled one is way prettier, and costs more than double on...
