    Vinyl Me Please Anthology

I'm planning on moving abroad over the next 1-2 years, so I've been thinking about how to move my collection lately. Due to the pain in the ass that such a task poses, I'll probably take only a portion of it with me, store a good bunch at my parents' house, and sell those records that I don't...

    The Blue Note Thread

Then you're in luck, because "The Real McCoy" -arguably his best album- was reissued as part of the Blue Note Classic series. I haven't had a chance to play it yet (thanks to whoever decided to ship my copy inside a plastic envelope instead of a cardboard mailer), but I can imagine it will sound...

Argh! After missing out on the initial Classic pressing of McCoy Tyner's "The Real McCoy", I could finally order it from Amazon, only to receive a heavily bent copy inside one of those plastic envelopes instead of a regular cardboard mailer.

Yeah, I can totally see what you're saying. It's got a lot of humor and quirkyness, while being executed at the highest level possible.

    The Blue Note Thread

Just spun my Classic pressing of Out to lunch, and I'm glad to report it sounds fantastic! I'm excited to spend more time with this record now that I have this reissue. I remember first listening to OTL years ago when I was first getting into jazz. It was too much for me, as I found nothing...

Not to derail the convo here, or sound like a broken record (pun intended), but the new list of Tone Poet reissues reminded me of what a killer release this record would be:

Yep, this is the only "Must grab" I see on the list at the moment. Now if they could reissue Mode for Joe too, I would be a happy man

So glad you picked it up and enjoy it!

Cool lil' background story on "A Love Supreme: Live in Seattle" https://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/music/how-john-coltranes-seattle-recording-of-a-love-supreme-was-found-thanks-to-2-local-saxophonists/

While I enjoy Red Clay, First Light is IMO the superior Freddie Hubbard CTI record. Like, they were all great, but First Light is on a class of its own to me.

I'm not hugely familiar with his later work, but I love both versions of Meditations (specially First Meditations) and Transition. The latter may even be my favorite Coltrane record. I've sampled other albums of the era, but I haven't enjoyed them as much, although that may change sometime.

Maybe it's because I didn't know the original song, but I do enjoy Evans's rendition. It may even be my favorite track on the album haha Edit: Nevermind, "The Peacocks" is definitely my favorite track on the album

That Evans record is criminally underrated IMO. A swansong on worthy his genius and career.

    Definitive Audiophile pressings

So glad you enjoy it. I know you'll love the Craft pressing too! This is arguably the most "essential" salsa album ever, and it contains an absolute classic of a song in "Pedro Navaja". I don't know how much of it will actually be conveyed in a translation, but the narrative on the lyrics is on...

    Definitive Audiophile pressings

Currently spinning this, and it is great! I have listened to this album a gazillion times, but this is the first time I've owned a vinyl copy, and boy does it deliver. I thought I knew pretty much every musical detail of this record - every horn line, rhythmic pattern or background vocals -, yet...

Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Wow, I may have to grab Dónde están los ladrones. Edit: Forget it. At that price, I'm not even considering. If it was "Pies Descalzos" maybe I would have caved, but I'm not falling for this.

    The Blue Note Thread

One of my favorite jazz records of all time. It just has something that no other record has.

Yep, I'm kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on "Oblique" when it was still in stock.

    Oh man, poor Clay

Same. I find them a bit generic too. It's cool that this kind of music is being made in our time, but IMO it doesn't stand out enough for me to grab any of their releases.
