42307 is the RTI pressing (which is what I have), 61812 is the EU pressing (both black). The clear US is a crap Nashville (United) pressing while the clear EU is a Record Industry pressing, with some lack of clarity in the lacquers used for each disc.

It's not a store by store thing, in Canada stores buy from the label or a single distributor, Fab. Fab basically buy from labels too, just a wider range including indies, which can be hard for stores to order from due to minimum quantities. The label for the most part sources wherever has...

Ptah, like 90% of Impulse, Verve, etc. aren't missing, they went up in smoke. Titles like Kwanza, Psychicemotus, etc. aren't going to be picked up by an audiophile label. Couldn't anyways - digital file only.

The Scofield is a 16/44 master. So, basically, it is for all intents mastering the CD files. I am fine with the VBR I have bought, which are the Alice, Lateef, Shepp, Brooks and Land. In the first three cases, there are no tapes. RKS did a sterling (no pun) job with whatever digital source is...

    The Blue Note Thread

That's kinda what I was getting at. You can look at Odyssey of Iska as part of a late BN trilogy - along with Super Nova and Moto Grosso Feio, and although IMO it is better than those two, still pretty self-conciously artsy and abstract. Interesting that the next album following those three is...

    The Blue Note Thread

Some gems, some clunkers IMO. Gems - Midnight Creeper, Polycurrents, Dialogue, Let Freedom Ring, Taru, Total Eclipse, Tex Book Tenor. Clunkers - Good Move (bingo hall music), Inta Something (neither McLean nor Dorham really near their BN peaks), Kofi (kind of a mish-mash of two very different...

Polycurrents and Midnight Creeper drop on January 5. Excellent titles.

I believe the consoles at BGM are solid state. There are both SS and tube amps/preamps feeding the consoles, in different engineer's rooms.

Nothing is. But look at MOFI, Impex, AP, Music matters, Tone Poet, Speakers Corner, Classic, Sam, etc etc. etc. - all black. ORG does colored sometimes but they would no longer be considered a pure audiophile label.

It is purely collectability. The industry has learned that 'variants' increase sales. It's as simple as that. Although colored vinyl has greatly improved in the last few years, it is still inferior to black vinyl. If you want the music, IMO black vinyl is the gold standard. That's why...

    The Beatles

I hope we're not becoming like SHF with hundreds of pages of needless Beatles shit. Now & Then is a Macca (aided by Ringo) concoction to promote Red & Blue, which otherwise wouldn't get the same level of unearned promotion as the remix albums. Nothing more, nothing less. Hey - I think Lennon...

This is a fabulous record. I know OG's are pricey, but well worth it. The BBE won't be analog and can't sound near as good as the superlative OG Victor. But otherwise, this album needs to be heard, even if it is BBE.

Holy shit - that is just fucking appaling.

    The Beatles

Yeah, you know, composers and musicians have all sorts of snippets, lyrical and musical notes, drafts and other droppings all over the place. Some they develop, some they discard, some they figure were shit to start and not worth spending more time on. Occasionally, there may be something...

    The Beatles

True. I find the song ok, but far from great. Maudlin, repetitive, lyrically fluff. A bit Vegas-y in production, strings, harmonies, etc., but at the same time, I suppose it needs all the sauces and toppings possible to hide the bland flavor underneath.

Chad's idea of more modern is 1970's. MOFI - maybe some, but it's hard to sell something recorded ProTools 16/44 as audiophile.
