    The Blue Note Thread

That is a strange noise. Only happens when the sax is playing which makes me think it's maybe related to the keys (as you suggested), rather than brushwork on a closed hi-hat, which was my first hunch.

Are you talking about what happens at 1:10 in the itunes sample?

    Vinyl Me Please Anthology

I really enjoyed that set. I am one of the rubes that doesn't mind overpaying (by some metrics) for the records to learn something new and listen for the story arc of the music. Album #4 (no spoilers in case you don't want to know) was a highlight for me. Happy listening!

    Vinyl Me Please Anthology

I had listed my extra copy of Schizophrenia (for those of you reading this who didn't follow the whole ridiculous saga, everyone got sent a 2nd copy of that record because some people received versions that had the labels on the wrong sides) under the main anthology listing. A few weeks later, I...

    The Blue Note Thread

Micahel Cuscuna did the heavy lifting on that in the late 70s, but Joe Harley definitely seems to want to shine a spotlight on the fact that many of these are not lesser sessions (in terms of music) than the ones that did get released around their recording dates.

    The Blue Note Thread

Coltrane's initial contract as a solo artist was with Prestige Records. While under contract with Bob Weinstock there, he was loaned to Blue Note for the Blue Train date. Letting artists record one-offs with other labels was a very common practice in the industry at that time. When his Prestige...

    The Blue Note Thread

Music Matters is in the process of repressing Blue Train onto SRX vinyl. For a few months, we have been expecting it to drop any day now. Realistically, it seems like it will be after the new year but nobody from MMJ has even suggested a date. My advice would be to hold off for that, as you...

I got the link to the survey. I was a little bummed there doesn't seem to be an entry into a drawing for the test pressings like last time.

    Vinyl Me Please Anthology

Did anyone hear back from VMP about whether any of the titles were exclusive to the box? I put in a ticket at about 2PM PST on Monday and still haven't heard back.

    Vinyl Me Please Anthology

Ah. I forgot they got rid of the 1 month subscription. That makes sense.

What's the issue with the QOTSA vinyl? Isn't the VMP edition cheaper than what's in the store?

    Vinyl Me Please Anthology

Looks like this box set drops the strip across the top of the spine that was supposed to be a unifying bit of design (even though the Women of Motown stripe was much larger than the one on the Blue Note box).

    Vinyl Me Please Anthology

If it's like the last time, they will NOT reveal the records when it goes live. The Blue Note Anthology gave it all away in the teaser video. The Motown Anthology had some hints in when the site went live. This one has 1/2 as many copies as the previous two, so the hype train is rolling that...

29 minutes to go and the site still suggests a $100 price point.

    Vinyl Me Please Anthology

If the price ends up being what most of us suspect (closer to $200), it will have been a dumb move to have something on that page that suggests $100. Would have been better to have a $300 placeholder price and then lower it for the reveal!

Price looks to be $100, but maybe that's a placeholder price.

I also really like We Want Miles. It's fun to hear all of the places Jean Pierre pops up in Miles's playing on earlier records. It's in Petits Machins on Filles de Kilimanjaro, as well as on All Blues from his My Funny Valentine/Four and More concert.
