The N&G Listening Club V1 - Archive only

what a cool story! I think I'll forever have to live with these three musical regrets of mine, that I'll never get to see Tom Waits, Dr. John or Jim Morrison live in concert..

The N&G Listening Club V1 - Archive only

The more I listen to him, the more Tom Waits I find as well. I'm not sure how I feel about this.. And it's very interesting, since he (Dr. John) didn't seem that much of an experimentalist before this. He mainly did R&B arrangements and piano sessions and said this about working with Frank Zappa...

The N&G Listening Club V1 - Archive only

Definitely funkier and more accomplished, but for me, there's something magic in his first 4 albums before hitting it big with Gumbo. The voodooness of it all makes it something more than just music for me. I have the same feeling towards the Doors. I love that feeling.

Wasn't familiar with either cover version, but Humble Pie also has an amazing jam blues-rock version of it. If you want to read more, this is a great blogpost about the circumstances around Gris-Gris happening and the person of Mac Rebennack in general...

(I actually discovered Dr. John last year, from a notable member of this forum posting a pic and description...

The N&G Listening Club V1 - Archive only

Ladies and gentlemen, it's an honor to put this thing in motion. And for the first N+G Listening Club record we'll put time in motion as well as we go back to 1967. It's an year in which time itself is very shifty -- there's lots of Eddies in the space-time continuum. The Beatles have just...

    The National

Gave it a try commuting around the city today, and it didn't stick much. But playing it loud-ish on speakers brings out a lot of nice moments. Some favourites: Lisa Hannigan is sooo good on The Pull of You, her voice is all I want to follow each time I play the song. Love her phrasing so much...

    The Hidden Gems Thread

No idea how hidden this is, but it's one of my favourite discoveries of this year. 70's prog/psych rock in the veins of Deep Purple. The first track is not the greatest, but for me it's a pure gem from there on afterwards. St Louis and Solitude are phenomenal. Warhorse S/T love the thread btw

This may just be proof enough that good things don't die so easily. Thank you everyone for making this happen. Hey you. i'm syngts, born in Romania, now living in Amsterdam for studies, away from my vinyl for the past 7 months. It's been hard. I'm still here for music tips (any chance we could...
