This looks like a nice set, although it's £103 to preorder on Amazon UK. For reference, the Savoy 10" set is now around £60, working out at £15 a disk, so theres room for a bit of a price drop over time. I don't have any Charlie Parker on vinyl either but this looks like a nice introduction if...

There's the trade off too about buying new vinyl vs old, seems like all kinds of vinyl is being listed as NM when it's clearly not even visually NM. I've found Discogs has been getting frustrating recently. For the price you paid it's a chance worth taking tho, seems a bargain at that price!

Actually that's a good idea, I might look at doing that for some of the box sets I have that don't have individual album sleeves. They'd definitely get played more if they weren't in a box.

Cheers, will keep those books in mind, that Art Pepper one seems like some story! The Miles one is taking a bit longer than usual as I'm reading a few pages and then getting sidetracked into streaming some of the songs he's mentioning...that Miles Davis six album Legendary Prestige box set...

A fascinating insight as always... I'm currently making the most of the lockdown and re-reading the Miles autobiography, and have also ordered the Mezz Mezzrow autobiography and Thelonious Monk: Life and Times....might as well add the Mingus one to the list if you recommend it! 😁

Superb. Thanks for suggesting these, and for giving an insight into each recording, I love all those side notes that add to the context of it all. Will spend some time over these and report back

Just reading Miles Davis autobiography again, specifically the parts about New York from the mid 40's up to the early 50's. Have to admit it's an era I've kinda neglected, as my jazz listening preference has typically been late 50s onwards, but it's great to be playing a bit of Bird, Diz, Fats...

    Vinyl Me Please Country

When this place was set up, we were advised by mods that there would be no additional vmp threads as four was enough. It was even voted on, so not sure why more vmp threads are now allowed.

With more tracks forthcoming in 2021, are we seriously gonna have a thread for each?
