    Golf?

Late to the game here, and not a low cap player but just wanted to emphasize the power of in person lessons and wanted to share my experience with lessons. First thing I want to point out is even though the lesson(s) are expensive, you really don't need to book several consecutive lessons in...

Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Paying for that brand name. But honestly I always think 60% of the original retail price is fair for well cared for used gear with original packaging. Comes in even less off retail when you factor in the buyer payed taxes and potentially shipping. That falls just below that standard, so I...

Eh, all about budgets and existing gear. But if you have an existing DAC that you love... maybe ;)

Tread lightly. Everyone I know that started with an Aries Mini moved up to a Lumin unit within 18 months. It's a slippery slope.

Phono Cartridges - Your favorites and least favorites?

That's also part of my justification. I know some people burn through carts every couple years, while others keep a line up of carts they rotate. I on the other hand, seem to have a stylus in a groove for about 6-10 hours per month (avg). And I've found I just don't tinker with gear once it's...

Phono Cartridges - Your favorites and least favorites?

At least I've got that covered! This was kind of my thinking. I'm trying to justify paying a professional to do my install. I know I could do it, but honestly I just don't want to. Let someone else do the work and let me enjoy the fun. The car analogy is perfect actually. I could change my...

Phono Cartridges - Your favorites and least favorites?

What are people's thoughts on how a proper set up extends stylus life? Does getting it set up to a really precise level extend the life of the stylus?

The Technics Turntable Fan Club - Questions, Advice, Discussion

I didn't realize the table sat INSIDE the box. I was thinking it was like the SkyFi Audio ones that kind of sit on top of the unit. This is much better. You could even go crazy and add some more isolation materials in there if you wanted to.

The Technics Turntable Fan Club - Questions, Advice, Discussion

This looks great. I rarely am impressed by features that are purely for aesthetics, but this really looks fantastic. I assume it doesn't interfere with cable runs? This is very smart and simply isolation. Great set up.

MoFi UltraDeck / StudioDeck Owners and those interested

Thank you both! I think I'm going to email the shop where I originally purchased the Ultradeck and see what he'd charge to do it as well. Honestly, if he'll do it for under $100, I might do that for pure peace of mind.

    No Buy Vinyl Support Thread

Welp, I failed. Got a great offer on a NIB Hana ML. So either I just got scammed, or I've got a cartridge upgrade on the way. But now it's seriously back to saving. I just discovered the RigidRack line of racks from butcher block acoustics and I am in love! We have been working on making the...

Yes, and that's what I do. I'm just glad to have met others who have decided to chase the other format options and allowed me to hear it along the way :)

Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

My main argument this is that plenty of credible folks also don't speak highly of cables, certain room treatments, isolation platforms, high end turn tables, or many other hifi elements. I'm not trying to prove or disprove any of those with this comment, and I don't want to take away from either...

Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

I don't know all the details on your other questions, but I know the answer to this is yes - absolutely delicate. When I have seen someone handle a lacquer, they wore gloves and did not open it until it was just about to hit the TT. Remember, I'm not talking in comparison to records. I just...

Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Think of it like any other form of making a copy. A standard vinyl record goes like this: tape > lacquer > stamper > vinyl So a copy, of a copy of a copy. And it's using that stamper to print multiple vinyl pressings, so in theory the first press with a fresh stamper will sound better than...

Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

A good reel to reel is truly amazing. And a decent deck isn’t that much in some cases. But sourcing good tape, setting it up, etc. ooof. It’s a lot. Whenever I’m even remotely considering it though, I just compare it to vinyl. $500 tape, or 4 one step vinyls, or 10-12 brand new records, or...

Cables - one of the most taboo subjects in audio
