Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

I know this is his general reputation, but I've been surprised by the people I've spoken to locally who don't speak as highly of the sound. I'm hoping to get some ears on some to help get a better sense of the sound for myself.

The looks, build and class A nature are all very appealing to me. I already run class A tubes, so I'm no stronger to heat and warmup time. But a little extra power and reliability would be nice, which is what has caught my eye.

Looking for opinions on Pass Labs, particularly the integrated options. I've been in a research rabbit hole looking at the int-25 and int-60. I've never heard a pass labs product, but looking to change that soon hopefully. A purchase like this would be a ways out, but these have captured my...

    Tonearm recommendations, thoughts, favorites?

I've got a long savings road ahead, but I think I'm going to pause all other purchases until I can move up to a VPI. I'm honing in on the Forever Model One, unless there is a local Prim Signature 21 on the market when I'm ready to buy. I think that's the only one I'd take over the One, largely...

This crossed my mind as well. It's possible the speed fluctuation was there for awhile and I just didn't notice it until I switched to the Hana. But it's definitely one of those things that once I've noticed it, I cannot unnoticed it.

This system was 100% Nordost wiring, Nordost power conditioning, Nordost footers under every piece of gear, Nordost grounding boxes tied to every piece of gear. And QSINE or QWAVE in every single open outlet. It was quite a sight... and quite a sound. This was also the second time I've heard a...

    Golf?

John Daly can often be found playing barefoot. Golf shoes have never been essential. Just like running shoes don't need to be specific to running, and hiking can be done without hiking boots. Anything comfortable for walking a few miles. However, also like running shoes and hiking books, a well...

Yeah, even though they tried to do the right thing, this really solidifies my perspective on the new MasterDeck. Between the price drop, a 7 year life span on the motor, and the lack of attention to detail... I think it's just ultimately going to make it easier to go elsewhere.

Only thing that came off the table was the bottom plate and the counterweight on the tonearm. It looks like a lot more than it is. The only touch the cartridge has was putting on the stylus cover.

The motor size isn’t the issue. It’s that they now use a clip in wiring harness. The only way to make this work would be to take off their wiring harness, cut off the wiring in the table, and wire in everything myself. And frankly, I’m not going to do that. I’ve reassembled everything for now...

I’m semi related news, I got to hear an actual Spiral Groove table today. Truly outstanding.

I guess I’ll just see what they say now. Given that we’ve confirmed they are using hurst motors, I’m very surprised they say it can’t be oiled/lubricated. I know VPI offers specific instruction for how to add oil to the motor and encourage doing it every 6-9 months.

You just have to love when a company tells you an install is easy, but they didn’t account for their own revisions. From their how to video: Underneath my turntable:

That’s how I understand it. Not dissimilar to Jay’s Audio advertising that they use the Philips dives in their transports.

This video could have been posted in a lot of sections, but posting it here because of an interesting comment around SACD. Paul says Marantz is the last maker of SACD drives, and they are pulling out of the market. They have about 300 SACD drives for the new transports, and when those are...

Oh, they offered that to me which was also a class act. However I JUST paid a pretty penny to have someone of much higher skill then my own to set up my cartridge. I really wasn't itching to send the table across the country and potentially have that alignment undone. Not to mention packing it...
