Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

It’s pretty cool. And this guy has really taken it to the limit. Upgraded all the tubes and every single capacitor in the unit.

A friend of mine had these in awhile back. Also a big advocate for Orchard. He loves the dac/streamer and it sounds great in his system. But I don’t think those amps even lasted a week in his house. Granted, he has an upgraded Musical Fidelity M3 NuVista, so stiff competition. But he said he was...

MoFi UltraDeck / StudioDeck Owners and those interested

They sent me an unlisted YouTube video on how to replace it. Basically unscrew the feet and bottom panel, unplug wire harness, and unscrew the motor. Drop in the new one and put everything back. Fingers crossed it’s even half that easy.

Yes, that was a pleasant surprise. And it looks to be a $90-100 part. Less in bulk obviously, but nice that they were willing to just ship it out.

If anyone was ever curious which motor goes into the Ultradeck, here it is. It’ll be interesting to see if it’s the same model that comes out.

I’ll take it one potential issue at a time. I do agree though, I think that’s a pretty premature run for a motor. But I do need to give them credit for not only standing by it, but also presenting options. Tracking shows that it should be here Thursday, so hopefully I can get it swapped out...

Honestly, the MasterTracker was great. I was really considering moving to one of the Mofi mc carts, but I got a killer deal on a NIB Hana ML. If I was going full retail, I think I might have tried the StudioSilver for my first MC cart based on my satisfaction with the mastertracker.

Did you not get on of the Mofi carts with it?

Figured I'd give a quick update here. I've had my UD since 2018, and it's treated me very well. At the start of the year I did notice a little speed fluctuation, which normally means it's time for some bearing grease that I tend to forget about. After about a week after the grease was applied...

Might be easier to fly to Mexico and use the tunnels the cartel has been operating for decades. Those things have been operating well before we decided to try and build a $18B wall. 🤦‍♂️

My main point is that moving somewhere else outside of the US, including somewhere with zero infrastructure, still might actually be cheaper than the countries with larger tariffs AND cheaper than setting up shop in the US.

This is really the most cost/quality effective way to go. The trouble is finding them. To be fair, I've never seen them in a shop here, and none of the big hifi retailers carry them either. I got mine used from a friend, and only see them sold online from sites that I'm otherwise unfamiliar with.

I've got some friends with the S4 series. Helped assemble one. They aren't the last word in isolation, but it's a solid rack. Easy to assemble. Holds considerable weight without sweating. Nice floor spikes. For the best sound I've noticed most people add various spikes/isolation feet under most...

I’m not doing any luxury spending to avoid tariff pricing. It’s luxuries. We don’t NEED any of this stuff. I have far larger concerns of increasing prices of things I actually need and having adequate cash if layoffs hit during low hiring periods and elevated pricing. Plus there is the concern...

It might be more, but it wouldn't be that much. Tariffs are paid on the transaction price based on the country or origin, so we're looking at the distributor price. $4300 retail, probably $2100 distributor cost. And made in Malaysia, which is set at 24%. That's a tariff of $504/unit. Assuming...

    Incoming! The New Equipment Thread

I'm jumping in on this 15 years ago game! Sony 5 disc CD changer (still have it, was a prized possession) Sony stereo receiver (sold to a friend that still has it) Pioneer bookshelf speakers I actually purchased that system back in highschool, probably around 2002-3 and it stayed with me...

He did tell me to just buy any spikes/feet I wanted to have them delivered to his house. He said he figured that I would know way more about them than he would.
