The Dark Side; Digital audio equipment recommendations and setup.

That's what I thought about Tidal.... and then one day there it was. The real question is what comes first, the previously announced Spotify Hifi or the hypothetical Qobus Connect?

The Dark Side; Digital audio equipment recommendations and setup.

I think if you're just using Tidal, Roon isn't worth the cost or extra program to connect and learn. Tidal Connect makes Roon fully duplicative for me. Roon starts to make sense for streaming services without a Connect feature, if you have local files, or you want to effectively use multiple...

Cables - one of the most taboo subjects in audio

That’s fair, lol. The way I look at is the existing gear + cable is still less than the next level equipment upgrade, so it’s more of a tweak. It’s also a foundation piece that can remain with me for future upgrades. But overall, much easier for me to justify because everything I would...

Cables - one of the most taboo subjects in audio

It has been a little more this year, but realistically I normally only change 1-2 things a year. Normally in Q1 after we've planned for the year and bonuses come in. But I haven't changed any actual components in almost 5 years.

Cables - one of the most taboo subjects in audio

Quick cable experiment update, going deeper into the speculative world of power cables. I currently have an Audioquest hurricane on my dac, and I decided I should try it on my Sutherland 20/20 LPS. This was a good news/bad news outcome, speaking from terms of my wallet. The bad news is this...

Honestly he would probably tell you himself that it’s what he wanted to do and that’s why they made this new arm.

    Incoming! The New Equipment Thread

I think it’s really just two different types of customers. One that loves to tinker and learn the machine inside and out. The hot rod specialist. And one that simply loves the table, doesn’t modify it for years at a time, and will only let a certified tech work on it. If I got a Linn, I...

    Reel-To-Reel and Tapeheads Thread

I’ve met a few guys that are hooked. There is a whole deep community around this side of things. Like you can get on lists for select estate sales around the world for tape collections of you go deep enough.

    Incoming! The New Equipment Thread

Definitely still in production. Not sure on distribution but we have a shop here that's a big Linn dealer. Differences are parts since it basically modular and virtually every single part can be upgraded. https://audioconceptsonline.com/linn/

    The VPI Turntable Thread

Yes, that's the main sales point, plus 10 year warranty. It's for tweakers Matt Westfield said in the introduction speech that they will custom fit any arm if you send them an arm (presumably for a price, and some physical limitations) TBD, I don't think enough people have been able to hear...

Upcoming experiment: Going to try my AQ Hurricane into the Sutherland LPS 20/20 tomorrow, and honestly hoping it's a low to no difference.

Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

If I was out that way I would absolutely see if they’d be willing to host for a day trip. Luckily LTA is coming to my neck of the woods for an audio show next month. Not an ideal demo space, but at least it’ll give me a rough idea and I can chat with them a little

Phono Cartridges - Your favorites and least favorites?

I mean it’s not a trick. It’s the whole pitch of the forever series. The whole idea is that every part will be modular and upgradable. In the introduction presentation Weisfield talks about VPI even being willing to have custom armboards made for arms from other manufacturers. They are...

Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Is anyone familiar with the LTA z40+ integrated amp? I'm very curious as I read more about this one. Not sure if it would be a good fit in my system, but they have my attention.

Suspended but not with springs. It's interesting but I would definitely wait until they release Forever Model 2, just to see what the price gap is and if they offer a type of 1.5 package that will maybe be a One with the arm or platter from the Two.

Feeling spendy huh? I can certainly help with that. Name a gear category and I'll suggest just the right things. If it's easier to wait until Night Mather can join, I'm willing to wait.

MoFi UltraDeck / StudioDeck Owners and those interested

If it’s going to require changing arms, I’d want to look into the potential of new arm options. But I agree, I’d likely move on from the table entirely. Very unfortunate that they won’t do much. Certainly enough of a turn off to not even consider their new $6k table.
