I've been seeing general online murmurs that this season is too slow; I do think there's a lot less incident than previous seasons, the characters are a lot more in limbo than previous seasons. But it feels like it's by design, and Mike White's writing with such assurance that I haven't minded...

So far I've been going through the introductory BassBuzz videos; I know I need to get into theory. I've always been bad with theory on my guitar; I was taking lessons and my instructor was walking me through the modes, but I dropped that instructor a while ago and my practice became very...

A month or so ago I jammed (for the first time!) with a friend; my main takeaway was he brought his bass and I found it to be a lot of fun. I found the process of playing along with someone or trying to suss out an existing song’s bass line to be a lot more intuitive than playing the guitar. I...

I’m rewatching Rushmore tonight; holy moly it’s been a while but this thing is seared in my brain. I get that increased budgets and creative control changed this, but Wes Anderson’s early movies, Rushmore especially, show a lot of recognizable contemporaneous reality leaking in, and I miss that...

Love that one; Andy Griffith is on a whole 'nother level there. Only thing is how it ends on this assuring note that, eventually, people wise up to fakers like Rhodes. Still waiting for that one to come true in our present situation.

Couple of thoughts watching movies sick in bed the last couple days: Ed Wood is Tim Burton’s best movie. Parasite has no right to be as entertaining as it is. Its razor focus only makes me appreciate the kitchen-sink zaniness of Mickey 17 all the more. Love that Bong can swing in such wild...

Absolutely agree here; my gripes with season 2 revolved around an increased focus on mysteries and dangling answers in front of the audience above character development and drama. The finale may have served some answers, but they were more vibey than concrete, and I felt more story potential...

Severance: good finale! Certainly stuck the landing and got my interest piqued for another season. I do think the second season got a lot more interested in the puzzle box of it all than I’d prefer and veered away from the sci-fi-meets-workplace-farce of the first season.

Went with Wages of Fear and 3 Women; had enough codes in reserve (including one for 20 bucks!) that my wallet went unscathed. I noticed a code came in last week and, unlike the others, it expires in a year. Not sure if that'll be standard going forward, but maybe prioritize that one over the...

I have a few codes floating around my inbox, it may be time to add to the old collection. Tough part is finding something I like which I haven't seen that many times. What I'd really like is to pull the trigger on a film I've never seen, but that's such a dice roll. 3 Women is one I've seen...

Saw Mickey 17 yesterday; overall I liked it, and it was about as messy and overstuffed as an English-language Bong is sure to be. Ruffalo was the weak link from my perspective; the guy was kinda hammy, but I think he shoulda turned the Ham Dial all the way up until the arrow bent and springs...

It seems like a poisoned chalice at this point: either you liked the ending or you gave up on it before you got there. Kinda undercuts the demand.

Yeah, the pacing is an issue for me too. Makes me wonder if the Harmony subplot would’ve built better if we’d followed her as a B (or C) plot during a few other episodes, and the Dylan plot could’ve simmered and built to more of a boil. It’s a hard premise to pull off for sure, I think the...

I think this season of Severance is, overall, quite good, but I’m enjoying the sci-fi more than the mystery. I’m liking the more than the aspects of the show. I may be in the minority, but the bottle episodes have been too mysterious and “reality”-breaking for me.
