    Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

Unfortunately, I have zero drive to dive down said rabbit hole with him. Idk why either.. I've known about him forever, too. Just never had the inclination to jump into his music. Maybe some day.

    Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

As a diehard metalhead for all of my life, I've, admittedly, never listened to Devin Townsend Project.. until today. I checked out Deadhead (Live at Royal Albert Hall). Wow, what a voice! And the sound engineering is amazing on this set.

    New Music Friday!

The new Deerhoof album is trying hard to make it on to a "worst album covers" list 👀 Edit: they're trying hard for the "worst albums" list, too 😦

    New Music Friday!

The new album, Weirdo, from Emma-Jean Thackray is definitely another standout among the slew of April 25th releases. Composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, E-JT is back with her 2nd LP: 57 minutes of mostly upbeat, funky, jazzy, and sometimes danceable tracks (19 of them to be exact). I...

For me, it was one of those rare initial listening experiences that will resonate with me for quite some time.

    New Music Friday!

Well, much to my delight (and surely @avecigrec's, too), BRUIT ≤ released their new album, The Age Of Ephemerality, 6 hours early at 6:00pm EST (which makes sense, as the group hails from Toulouse, France 🇫🇷 and it was 12:00am there Friday morning).  TAOE is the band's 2nd LP. Their 2021 debut...

@Rip_City So, I'm not sure, as you said, if another spin would yield the same results... or if the time away may give me a fresh perspective. Hoping for the latter. 2 of 2

@Rip_City 2025 has been an excellent year for new metal releases so far, especially atmospheric black metal. With the new releases from Saor, Grima, Gráb, Sivyj Yar, Void of Hope, and Havukruunu (my tied frontrunner for album of the year right now with Messa [who is actually not atmo BM]), I...

@Rip_City my favorite album from Deafheaven is New Bermuda (2015). So, I, too, was disappointed in 2018 and even moreso in 2021 with those subsequent releases (which you mentioned). And that's interesting - my favorite track from the new album is also 'Amethyst'.

I guess I should give the new album another go then? After (2) initial listens when it first dropped, I thought it was good, but not as good as all the hype it was getting. I wasn't blown away or anything... It was a solid 7.5 outta 10. Maybe it was due to other new black metal-style albums...
