The Darlington Labs thread (New 2024 models!)

I recently upgraded my MM6 --> MP7B and was pleasantly surprised at the improvement. I especially love the ability to tweak LF EQ and LF EQ via jumpers. If I'm being honest, I'm unsure what the difference between MP7B and MP8B is. I can't tell if the 8 adds new features, but it does appear that...

Vinyl - MoFi StudioDeck + Nagaoka MP-200 --> Darlington Labs MP7B Digital - Topping DS3 Pro+ CD - NAD C538 I'm thinking this too I've got the 10S MKII. I bought the wireless adapter because I didn't know where I would want to place it, but I ended up keeping it in the first place I put it...

The Technics Turntable Fan Club - Questions, Advice, Discussion

If this becomes an issue, Sorbothane hemispheres, easily found on eBay, are incredible at isolating vibration. I have them between my speakers and their stands, and I never feel speaker vibration when touching them.

I appreciate the input, all. I was concerned I wouldn't get my point across, but you all got it. I'm looking for something that will remind me of my accomplishments and sound great for decades.

I want someone to play devil's advocate for me, and I hope this crew can help. Let's pretend I have an opportunity to buy myself a congratulatory gift on a healthy budget and am considering a McIntosh MAC7200 amp. This would be an endgame amp for me. It's a brand name, and I'd be buying it...

New ultrasonic vinyl cleaner in the works: Humminguru

Humminuguru owner here. Because I was curious, I bought one of those 6L ultrasonic baths (this one) from eBay and tested. I use the method that Tergikleen outlines with their product: Use Spin Clean to give a surface cleaning/prewash. Fill up the ultrasonic cleaner with Tergikleen / reverse...

New ultrasonic vinyl cleaner in the works: Humminguru

Yes, Japanese pressings are renowned for their quality. I can't wait until the next time I go to Tokyo. I'm bringing a hard carrier for the trip back home :)

New ultrasonic vinyl cleaner in the works: Humminguru

I agree that bad grading and wrong pressings are becoming an issue. You need to be super careful of the sellers, but I recently took the time to do the legwork on Fleetwood Mac's Rumours pressings and Dire Straits Brothers in Arms. I found out which ones were widely considered excellent and a...

New ultrasonic vinyl cleaner in the works: Humminguru

The deeper I've gotten into collecting, the more I want original or early pressings. These almost always sound better than any remaster, half speed, 45 rpm, 180g, three tracks per side nonsense they throw at it. Give me a VG copy from the original year and it usually sounds amazing.

How comfortable are these? I have a pair of Grado 325s, and while they sound great the comfort is like a -5/5

I haven't used many headphone amps, but the best I have is a Creek OBH-11. I don't think it's made anymore, and I picked one up for a decent price on eBay. I also paired it with a Behringer 10-band EQ to give me a good range of tweakability.

New ultrasonic vinyl cleaner in the works: Humminguru

Most of the 6 liter ultrasonic baths on eBay have heaters which enhances the cleaning action. Also, according to vinyl cleaning agents like TergiKleen state that the optimal temperature to clean records is ~35 degrees celsius.

New ultrasonic vinyl cleaner in the works: Humminguru

I'm curious: Has anyone here switched from the industrial DIY ultrasonic cleaners found on eBay to the Humminguru? Do you have any field reports? I have the Humminguru, but I am still interested in the big bin cleaners with heaters, etc.

Gotta warp, these members can help. [Vinyl Flat]

Yes, I think I am seeing minor improvements, but they are insufficient. It seems like the dished records are the hardest to flatten out. Edge warps tend to flatten without issue.

Gotta warp, these members can help. [Vinyl Flat]

I've got a question for my fellow Vinyl Flat owners. How do you handle dish warps? I have the damndest time flattening them out, and these days, probably 10% of the new records I buy are dished on Side A. Here is my most recent record I'm trying to flatten out: Weight: 132 grams Color: Magenta...

I have heard this as well. If you have the needle down on a record, and the tonearm is level, then it's set. This is where blank Side D records come in handy...

Since getting my new cartridge, I’ve become slightly obsessed with proper alignment. I will say that right now, I like the sound. I’m getting very low surface noise, clear bass, and no inner groove sibilance, so I have a level of confidence that it’s well-aligned. But it’s hard to get...

The designated ring seems appropriate. The MP-200 is about 6.7g, which puts it on the second ring. About 10 hours in and I’m loving how the this cart sounds.
