A Road Well Traveled…My System Journey…Completed?

June 2022- Bought this used pair of Spendor SP 3/1’s and really enjoyed them. They absolutely influenced my current speaker choice. I had them and the Forte III’s at this time.
This was my favorite iteration. I mourned the Luxman integrated leaving and was thrilled to see the Luxman power amp replace the Parasound. The SL-1210GR didn't get a mention, though -- probably 'cause it looks so similar to the PLX-1000.

Nonethless, the final iteration with another Luxman integrated and the Thorens turntable will likely be my new favorite! Happy to see @Slimwhit33 explore all the options available to him.

I realized that mistake last night! To be honest, I forget when I had it. 😂

May 2021- Out went the Sutherland and in came a Luxman E-250 Phono stage. Didn’t think it improved on the sound of the Insight or the L550’s on board phono so it was short lived. Also picked up a Sony 2251 Direct Drive table which I messed around with for a bit and put a SME 3009 on. Also a precursor to my Vinyl Nirvana table. View attachment 229908View attachment 229909
We've had a similar turntable journey, albeit backwards. My first big system purchase was a Vinyl Nirvana'fied Thorens TD-147 (love me an auto-lifter). If it weren't for the floors in my early 1900's place, I would've kept it forever.

Went searching for a nice DD afterwards and ended up with a sibling to your Sony, a 2250. From an aesthetic/performance perspective, it was only topped by a really well sorted end game turntable that will show up in my system in the next few weeks.

This was a fun thread, maybe I should try to collect the photos of all my systems over the years.

I loved the Sony. Still have it. Someday I will get a new arm for it as right now it’s without one. Look forward to hearing about your new table!

What’s the Thorens like relative to the UltraDeck?

My current Thorens, with the SME arm and Shure V15 III, competes very well with both MoFi tables I owned. The MoFis are more quiet as far as background noise and present in a more relaxed manner. I think the Thorens has a more lively and engaging sound while also presenting bass in a tighter, more punchy manner that suites my ears.

I loved those Delrin platters for sure.

I'm inspired by the double Luxman choice here. I've got several months before my next milestone birthday to squirrel away money for a L-509X.
I LOVE my L-509x. It will be hard to replace if I ever do. The thing is rock solid, has plenty of power, sounds great, and built to last. I’d heartily recommend it to anyone that is willing to invest in a solid center piece to build a very long term system off of.
