Amps......

OK...upgrading system...longer story, but unless you have time to stop by and have a good many drinks (which by the way i am always open to).......first off, going with a dedicate integrated amp for phono and CD....Right now looking at Hegel 190V, Parasound Hint 6 and Rotel RA1592 MK II.

Looking to handle the three zones (TV, Kitchen, Outside) with an Onkyo RZ70...though not sure that is more than i need to spend for in ceiling speakers - tv sound and out door speakers.

I currently have marantz SR5014 for tv and outside
marantz NR 1710 for kitchen.
This was my initial rebuild back to vinyl after the big sleep of 2008

out of the few sites i look at, i think i trust you all the most, so....thoughts?....

Do you already have the house wired for speakers? If so you might consider some Sonos amps for the whole house setup and a Sonos port for your main system so you could stream vinyl or CDs to the amps. I have Sonos for my main living areas and outside. It’s easy for the rest of my family to use and it sounds good for casual listening.

All the integrateds you’re looking at seem like good options.

I’m a real fan of their wireless home cinema offerings too having had a playbase and 2x play 1 for 7 years now.

If it’s already wired and running to a central location, they’d just need an amp with speaker selection/speaker selector. Sonos might be a bit of overkill if so.

Had the house wired 4 years ago.....Monitor Silvers in living room with matching center and sub (sub took a lighting hit recently...i think), 8" Monitor in kitchen ceiling (i built boxes for them in the attic) and decent small Monitors for outdoors (which i listen to 2-3 times a year?). They did a great job installing but definitely had little clue about the components. I, of course, did not have a much better idea on how i was going to grow back into the system. It did not help that they used two AV receivers to get the three zones and both from Marantz so no way to use remotes on them (too long a story)...which to this day aggravates me hence, the sooner than i thought upgrades.. Had i known better back then...

Pretty much just stream to the kitchen and outdoors from computer using Peace & EQ APO (though original set up has me doing all inputs to all places - it is a mess off wires).

Want dedicated amp for the living room (music only - phono and cd player, maybe streamer in future) that ups the game without likking me financially. Figure when i retire in a few years maybe ypgrade again.

The TV, Kitchen and Outdoors need a 3 zone AV amp. Probably use the towers for TV so the dedicated amp needs bypass capabilities.

Pretty much leaning to the Hegal or Parasound..but pen to others yet.

The AV which is on sale for a good number is stillmore than i wanted to spend there as i was hoping to use what i have as the Marantz is a decent unit for that, but, only two zone. So if i am gong to upgrade...guess i should upgrade?...lol

The Sonos amps would allow for syncing or controlling each zone. 3 amps would run about $2100. Might be able to get a discount on Black Friday.

I know what Sonos does. I don’t really know how the software works but I’m not sure they would need three amps from Sonos. Unless I misunderstand the question, they are already wired with the speakers running to amps/sources in a centralized location. Sonos’ typical application is to sync or link systems that aren’t necessarily wired together.

Because of perceived limitations at build… they are currently set up in such a way that they cannot control all three zones with one device, they have two. They could also just add a speaker selection device and be able to run all three zones at the same time or separately. The only real benefit of Sonos in the set up as I understand it would be the ability to play different sources in each zone. If that is not something they want to do… Sonos is a bit of overkill (not necessarily price wise but function wise)

Yes....i have two AV amps with two zones each. Both are Marantz and I am not thrilled with them.

Thought about a box to switch zones, but really would prefer a single AV...so looking to be pretty set on the Onkyo RZ70 as it should go on sale soon for $1799.00....that is about what i paid for the two amps i have currently....and the Onkyo should be a big upgrade on them.

Still looking and thinking on the integrated amp. Leaning Hegel....but still looking with w relatively open mind.

Hey @Mather does your AV have zones? Maybe you can help this guy out if so. He’s looking for three.

I hear what you are saying, but I have seen home installs with multiple Sonos amps stacked to control different zones. You could play different music in each zone or group them together to play the same content. You can also individually control volume levels. This can all be managed through the Sonos app and the amps tucked away out of site. IMO, it’s simpler to use and more convenient setup. Especially, for my wife to use.

Full disclosure I have Sonos at my house in the main living area, kitchen and bedroom and outside. My wife and other that come to the house are able to use it with little or no involvement from me. My wife wont go near the setups I have in my office. She thinks it’s madness. But admits it sounds really good. Lol.
