Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

I still think VMP makes the most sense for international customers over US customers. If I lived in the UK or abroad, I'd probably be a subscriber still.

The disconnect for me on these is that all the other jazz dispensary titles in the US are $25 or less. Same quality pressings and jackets. So it just seems like I'm paying nearly twice as much for an exclusive color and it being limited. I'm assuming the other Jazz Dispensary titles (like the recent represses) are harder to find in UK/Europe though.

I get what you're saying & I haven't got enough Jazz dispensary titles to compare, but I did get the latest RSD one & packaging and vinyl is a lot more lightweight, still done at RTI. I think with the VMP titles they are the premium pressing, almost like Blue Note Classic compared to Tone Poet but not quite. I'm sure there are other Jazz Dispensary titles that are done of the same quality for a lot cheaper but I think that is happening less & less. (unfortunately)

I grabbed the Joe Henderson - The Elements repress recently for $25 and it’s same quality or maybe even nicer jacket than the Heavy Axe VMP. I’m secretly hoping that they reissue the VMP titles on black in a wider release. The Rusty Bryant jazz dispensary title just came back into stock recently and so did Gary Bartz so those are both on their way to me soon! I’d recommend The Elements for sure if you can track down a reasonably priced copy in the UK!

Have there been widespread problems reported with the Mars Volta records (other than Deloused) from VMP?

debating buying via experience vinyl (black, cheaper -- but only octahedron and amputechre available) or vmp (iffy quality on the one i *do* have, more expensive, color, but frances and goliath are available...)

Not so far no. I've got 3 of them and aside from a small issue on Bedlam they're all pretty solid. Which one do you have from VMP?

My Francis sounds great. Everything Deloused should have been.

Just deloused and not really impressed tbh. The cover and art is nice but the record itself took a while to get right. I wound up with 4 copies.

They all sound basically like that one. I mean none of them were recorded or mixed all that well originally so I think there's only so much they can do.. But the remaster is pretty pedestrian all around frankly. It could be better and the packages certainly could be better. The De-Loused VMP is by far the best packaging of the bunch.

this is what we call "damning with faint praise" around here

The top shelf series was top notch. That's what @MikeH is referring to. RSD comps are another thing all together.

I listened to my Donald Byrd - Places and Spaces today which is probably my best sounding Classics BN (I only have three thus far) - After this I played the Top Shelf The 3 Pieces - Vibes of Truth which sounds better and Funk, Inc s/t which wasn't quite as good as the Byrd. I think the Funk, Inc was the least impressive sounding of the bunch, so I'd put them in the between Classics right at Tone Poet category. They are really nice pressings and packages.
