Sonidos Encontrados is VMPā€™s new series celebrating deep cuts from the expansive catalog of Latin music. Eventually, the series will aim to reissue releases from many genres, countries, and eras, but the seriesā€™ first reissues are dedicated to the Fania label, in celebration of the labelā€™s 60th anniversary.

Fania was the Motown of Latin Soul music in the ā€˜60s and ā€˜70s, the home to household names like Hector Lavoe, Ray Barretto, Celia Cruz, Johnny Pacheco, La Lupe, Joe Bataan, and Willie Colon.

Our first release in Sonidos Encontrados ā€“ Spanish for ā€œfound soundsā€ ā€“ is Willie ColĆ³nā€™s El Malo, the debut LP from the band leader, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and activist. ColĆ³n was the wunderkind of the Fania label, as he recorded the album when he was just 16 years old. The title track from the album was in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, and the album features guest vocals from a 21-year-old Lavoe, who was beginning his own rise to salsa stardom.

Pressed at VMPā€™s own pressing plant, plated by Gary Salstrom at VMP, and remastered AAA by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound, these releases will be limited to 1000 units and pressed on 180g vinyl and come with a custom obi strip and a Listening Notes booklet.

VMP members can expect at least five more Sonidos Encontrados releases in 2024.
$41 for members.

Just keeps climbingā€¦

Is this the order that the warehouse is unable to do in a timely manner because some of the records are too high up on the shelf or whatever their dumb excuse was?
That wasn't me, but could be why because they never told me what the delay was. It took them nearly a month to investigate it, then they gave me a $15 credit and said it would ship this month. It didn't come with my sub though, and they just said it should still come this month according to the warehouse.

Which really is and always has been ā€œour computer systems are fucking useless and we wonā€™t pay for better one because blaming the warehouse weā€™ve been pilling onto for 6 or 7 years is way easierā€.
