There’d have been loads of people who went balls out crazy trying to get that when it first hit swaps just because it’s an anthology….
… then they realised they’d been hooked by one of the worst ideas ever to be brainstormed in the VMP Coke Barn and promptly tried to palm them off on their locals
Yeah I've got a copy that was piffed to me by @BjorgenFjorgen. But it was because it had a defect that causes a bunch of pops across the first track. I'll probably try to grab a replacement, although something tells me there's probably only a couple in there so I'm guessing it'll be tough...I love that Ted Lucas..one of my favorites that I grabbed from them
They included some dumb shit on it, but it's still a decent set and as my only comedy album on wax I would have bought it for the $36 at my local too. That said, I do get why most people do not need or want it in their collections. There’d have been loads of people who went balls out crazy trying to get that when it first hit swaps just because it’s an anthology….

That’s a good example of something I probably woulda never purchased based on todays prices but was a fun discovery when stuff like this was around $24 a pop.Interesting to see Ted Lucas back in there. They didn't repress I don't believe so I'm guessing they found a box of it somewhere...

Mucho Mistrust
Mucho Mistrust, the latest album from Oakland post-punk trio Fake Fruit, is here on 1LP Wine Stain on Carpet vinyl and limited to 150 units.www.vinylmeplease.com
I haven't heard of the band or album either, but I thought the title was fitting for VMP's current situation. Then I realized they couldn't even get the title right: Several hours later, the album is almost sold out, and the title is still wrong on their website. This is exactly what I was talking about the other day, VMP pressing continually pressing shit I have never heard of.

I really like the album artwork. In their defense it is only a dollar more than the label, on the same label as the Beths so I guess there is that connection.

CAK175 Fake Fruit - Mucho Mistrust
***Pre-Order repress Orange LP Shipping end of January.*** Fake Fruit’s visceral indie rock operates so firmly in the present that it’s transportive and unmooring. The Oakland trio’s songs careen with volatile energy and lead singer Ham D’Amato’s lyrics are enveloped with acerbic humor and...store.carparkrecords.com

Well it’s almost sold out already so…I think it’s cool they are doing some lesser known bandsThis is exactly what I was talking about the other day, VMP pressing continually pressing shit I have never heard of.
Must be exhausting having to defend VMP all the timeWell it’s almost sold out already so…I think it’s cool they are doing some lesser known bands
Especially here.Must be exhausting having to defend VMP all the time
This just convinced me to scoop a copy on discogs for 25.Got my damaged Doors today. Big scratch across the front cover but at $20 (along with a flawless 7") I'll happily take it.
Edit: Holy shit a lot of people have this one on discogs. I remember it selling out much quicker than I anticipated (hence why I'm only getting it now) but this must've been a pretty big hit for VMP.
Eh. I find it kinda weird to see people shit on every single thing they do just for the sake of shitting on it. They definitely shoot themselves in the foot constantly so there is no shortage of stuff that they deserve criticism for.Must be exhausting having to defend VMP all the time
this place is a billion times better than the VMP forum ever was so I don’t really care about them nuking the forum anymore.Especially here.
I was just trying to say that this is the kind of shit that usually sits in the store for months. Good that they are selling it out, it is also 150 copies less than their usual low pressings so that probably helps. And they’ve probably only sold a 100 or so because the rest will be in swaps at some point and TBT so there is that.Well it’s almost sold out already so…I think it’s cool they are doing some lesser known bands
In the old days, sclusies sold out fast. I don’t even remember when that changed. There were times when technical glitches would lead to you not being able to get something. For those of us long in the tooth with the company, stuff sitting around was kind of a sign of a failed item - whether it be our lord and savior, Tabakin, or Perro Del Mar.The idea that something sitting in the store for months as being noteworthy is curious to me. That’s the norm for most vinyl releases. Same for something going to swaps being thought of as, seemingly, a negative or an indication that something is wrong w the release or VMP’s biz. Swaps are part of the club model, and the ability to swap for credit is a key reason why I’ve been willing to sign up for any period of time more than a month.
I’m not trying to defend VMP. I don’t care one way or another about VMP and don’t recall even being aware of its existence before I joined N&G. But I’m also old and don’t recall a lot of things these days.
I also remember when Throwback Thursdays had people frothing at the mouth. Now there’s frothing, just for other reasons #frothyIn the old days, sclusies sold out fast. I think these smaller things get a lot of slant eyed these days because VMPs shit is (mostly) expensive. It was easier to take a flyer on something at $18 or $20.
Also, seemingly by comments from staff on discord, they weren’t aware that people waited for shit to show up in swaps to be had for cheaper - at least not to the extent it is done.
