That one seemed surprising because Cicely usually does great work. Given how bad the reviews were, seems crazy that it went all the way through production and was approved

Yeah, I mean considering she made a literal CD rip sound awesome the month before, I can only imagine she was given trash source material for the W.

It’s not traditionally bad mastering (like flat and lifeless sounding), it’s just really weird sounding. Maybe she did what she could with it, VMP was in the early stages of their leadership issues and just approved it without much scrutiny, and she moved on to another project. Best I can guess.

It's so hard to describe how it sounds "off" too. Almost like the pressing is off-center but visually it doesn't seem to be that way. The W isn't one of my favorite Wu projects so I'll probably dump my copy sooner or later but still feel pretty disappointed by the whole thing.
