Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Nothing they have done recently tells me they have the ability to offer any sort of personalized curation. I would suspect something more along the line of “let’s get rid of the rest of these Torres records”.

Maybe I am wrong.
That's exactly what I expect. If you haven't ordered one of their overproduced back stock, you are getting it for sure.

and there they go....

Since 2013, Vinyl Me, Please has been dedicated to pressing essential albums and handcrafting their definitive editions. What began as one record per month grew to a catalog of more than 1,500 VMP Exclusives, and somehow, our work still feels like it’s just getting started.

Two realities have fueled the evolution of VMP since our beginning: first, there is an overwhelming number of albums that deserve to be memorialized, and second, our community is incredibly diverse and is constantly asking for more options and more flexibility.

We spent 2024 listening to feedback from our members and letting our data challenge our assumptions. In this process, a key theme emerged: the one-size-fits-all model of the current ROTM experience no longer serves you (our members) in the ways it used to. So, for the last few months, we’ve been busy building something better.

Beginning February 2025, we are changing the ROTM experience. Here's how things will work moving forward:

We will no longer be releasing new ROTMs each month.
  • We will still release ROTM-quality records (including remastering and Obi strips) as store exclusives. The first of these titles will drop tomorrow, and we have a killer lineup planned throughout the year.

When the Swap window opens, you can choose which record(s) you want via Swaps
  • Swaps will include an expanded selection of titles, including would-be TBT titles and a wider array of exclusives and bundles.
  • We’ll continue to add new products to Swaps each month to ensure there is a diverse and exciting mix of inventory to choose from, and we’ll be releasing other improvements to the Swaps experience over the coming months.

If you don’t select something via Swaps, we’ll pick something for you based on your purchase history, wishlist, and the genre(s) of your active Track(s).
  • We’ll be re-enabling the Rock and Country Tracks, and you can configure your Tracks to align with your tastes.
  • Over time, we’ll offer more ways to customize your profile to ensure your experience is focused on the artists and genres you’re most excited about.

Active members as of February 1st will get a 15% lifetime discount on future store purchases (compared to 10% for new members; this discount will only apply while your membership remains active).
  • We’re also sending active members a surprise gift in February shipments as a token of our appreciation.

We recognize that this model may not work for everyone, so we’re also introducing a new membership tier called the Crate. This membership option offers free shipping, a 10% discount in the store, and access to exclusives, but it does not include a monthly record. We will share more details in the coming weeks.

We’re sure there are questions, so we’ve created an FAQ page with more information. We’re also hosting a Discord Q&A on Friday, January 17th at 10 a.m. MT.

While we recognize this change may feel big and like a departure from what has made VMP special, our mission to memorialize essential albums and help you build a record collection your friends and family will fight over when you’re dead has only grown stronger. We’re ecstatic to be on this journey with you and can’t wait for what 2025 and beyond have in store for all of us.

If you have additional questions, please hit us up at info@vinylmeplease.com.

I think they are right in the fact that ROTM one size fits all record clubs are a thing of the past especially considering people have less expendable income. All the financial issues of the past year give this a really bad look and make it seem like this is Bandbox 2.0.

I don't even get what they're doing. They're no longer sending/making ROTMs? Are they just making exclusives and you pay to have access to the whole catalogue of records and the ability to swap between em?
It sounds like to me that they are very much moving to the bandbox model where they will have a variety of new offerings every month that you can choose as your ROTM or they will send you a record they think you will like based on what you have bought from them. You then can buy additional albums at a discount.

The club was founded on shared experience and that is something they did well in the early days. This ain’t that. Vnyl, Bandbox, Feedbands, and, to a lesser extent, Run Out Grooves couldn’t make this work. Not sure why they would go to a proven loser of a model when they are clearly in trouble.

The funniest thing to me is when Matt started axing customers and tracks, it was to make it a more exclusive experience. This dilutes the experience and the only exclusive experience left is dumb prices.

Also bringing back crate as an annual sub at $119 is asinine. $10 a month would be the same and would probably be an easier pill to swallow. I’ve wondered for a minute why they didn’t bring back this free money option for themselves.

You are not wrong.

This is simply a sham, a new twist to get you to pay for records they can't move.

VMP is rapidly moving into ponzi territory.

I totally forgot about Crate, I did that a few times, wasn't it five dollars a month back in 2016-2017?
Yup and it was a good option before swaps. I’m unsure why you would choose it now. I guess it depends on pricing of ROTM but I don’t think I would find it an effective cost saving for me. Especially since part of their overblown pricing is clearly baking shipping in and then charging for it to nonmembers.
