TBH I hope they let us stay working from home my company has flirted with the idea but hesitant to pull the trigger. I am trying to stay Uber productive so I can help build a business case.
 
So I’ve had some very minor symptoms over the past few days, mostly think I have a stomach bug/flu because my breathing and cough have been perfectly healthy.

However, I just used Instacart on the recommendation of a coworker who also gave a discount via their referral. I feel a little guilty using a service like that, but I guess it’s going to be useful going forward. Also I’d rather not risk getting worse or infecting any people if I do have the virus or just anything stomach related.

The app does recommend other items in place of ones you select because they know of something is running low. But I have a feeling they won’t be able to deliver half of what I ordered because they’re out. If anyone wants to try it out, let me know because I can send a referral link that gives you $20 off which basically covers the service fee and heavy order fee.

With Covid-19, if we get a worse case scenario in the United States, based off of 200 million people being infected, that would be 1.7 Million deaths in the United States alone.

That is very scary if you think about it. Much more significant than the flu

Right. But worst case, there's a lot of worst cases being thrown around. I just hope people understand that. However the entire thing has been so monumentally botched by The Trumpublicans that I suppose anything is possible.

Stop comparing this to the flu. The flu is a known entity. We have vaccines for the flu because of how awful it is. We know how the flu spreads. We have tests for it.

This is different. We don't have good tests in the US right now. We don't know how fast it spreads or how deadly it is. But it's clear that it spreads way faster than the flu and is definitely deadlier.

Stop comparing it to the flu. This is a huge deal. Look at Italy and Wuhan and tell me "hurr Durr flu".

Sick of that stupid argument.

This might be a whole new disease taking root in humanity, which means thousands more dead every year if we can't get our shit together and stop this spread.

Why does everyone assume there will be a vaccine? Or that the vaccine will be perfect? And why does everyone assume it'll happen before millions of people are infected?

I don't think people should be panicking, but I do think they should be taking this seriously, staying home, and doing their best to help avoid a catatrosphe.

Oh I totally agree that people should be staying in and taking it seriously. We had SARS up here in Toronto and it was scary. I'm just saying freaking out over it isn't going to help anyone. Vaccines are already being tested, the curve is falling in the original hot spots. We will get this.

I've heard multiple doctors confidently say that they will have a vaccine, I don't think they're bullshitting, I believe them.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's imperfect like the flu shot, but if it's effective at all it's a huge step towards managing the situation.
