Neverending Covid-19 Coronavirus

I just got back from the grocery store. All of the following items were completely sold out:

  • Toilet Paper
  • Paper Towels
  • Disinfectant Wipes
  • Cleaning Supplies
  • Bread
  • Eggs
  • Beans
  • Soups.
  • Pasta
  • Pasta Sauce
  • Canned Tomatoes
  • Ramen Noodles
  • Rice
  • Bottled Water (They did have gallon jugs on pallets up front though)
  • Chicken (Of any kind whatsoever)
  • Ground Beef
  • Tortillas
  • Potato Chips
  • Certain Canned Vegetables (There was still canned peas and other oddball stuff).
  • Frozen Pizzas
  • TV Dinners
  • Frozen meals like Lean Cuisine
  • Soda
  • Seltzer
  • Frozen Vegetables

And that's just what I noticed
Man.... I am fully expecting my instacart order set to be delivered today to be tragically empty. I don’t want to go out to the store myself but I may have to to pick around for some scraps.

I stopped by my local grocery on Thursday and It was super busy and they had low stock on many items I was able to purchase TP, antibacterial soap, and beer (along with other things) the demand is high right now but it should level off people are eating more and the supply chain for most of these items does not appear to be interrupted at this point, would would not panic buy or worry too much. If you have enough to make it through this initial panic things will start to level out soon enough. Anxiety is more powerful than FOMO. Do what you need to do to feel comfortable.

In the US, keep an eye on the transportation industry. As long as myself and @HiFi Guy are still working, you’ll be OK.

Speaking of transportation industry. I just heard that Poland Springs bottled water out of Maine is having a supply chain issue. Due to the coronavirus they now do not have enough truck drivers available to make normal deliveries let alone keep up with increased demand.

Apparently the yellow vest protests went on in France anyway today, defying the gathering restrictions. Doesn't seem smart to me.

No, we can come visit and hang out in the emergency room all day and come back. We are then "expected" to self quarantine for two weeks though.

You just can't visit us.

And you can’t come back with us.

I think I’d rather be in Ireland than any other western country right now. We seem to be the least affected in Europe so far and are acting pretty sensibly unlike our close neighbours.

but shouldn't we basically all be in a quarantine mode... not getting on planes, not going out and socializing, etc...?

what's the purpose of travel at this point? what's the upside during a global pandemic?

I don’t think that’s the point though. The point is that it’s a empty gesture. It’s not going to help and it’s textbook Trump xenophobic misdirection. That money time and effort should be spent on effective measures. As an individual it’s probably not wise and to quote the great BA Baracus “I ain’t getting on no plane!”

if that's how you feel. not going to try and change your mind, but my wife (Registered nurse), mother-in-law (Nurse practitioner), and sister-in-law (MD) all see the value in restricting travel. I'll take them at their word.

also they are all registered Democrats.

This doesn’t surprise me. Maine is a really shitty place to go into because the outbound rates suuuuuck. All they have to do to get drivers up there is to offer to pay more.

This is good, but will I be getting a refund/not charged the $50 bucks I pay extra to not be capped?
