Neverending Covid-19 Coronavirus

Some hospitals in Italy are no longer counting the dead the situation has gotten so bad.

:(:(:(:(:(:(

OK, just a random thought whilst walking the dogs. Is there some advantage to asking that ALL drs report to the hospitals? Not just the drs that actually work at the hospitals, but also all the drs that have their own practices. Like an all hands on deck? Get the dermatologists, the primary care drs, the ENTs, etc etc, into those hospitals to help. I imagine there are laws/restrictions on that but let's get those waived for now.

Am I not thinking of some reason this isn't being done?

According to my wife, this is a part of the disaster plan at most hospitals. There is a strong likelihood that even she, as a labor and delivery nurse, could be required to work in the ED or ICU. I would say that dermatologists may be on the lower rung of people being called to the front lines but your idea is valid.

When I say required, I mean that all union contracts about hours, mandation, and overtime go out the window once a certain threshold is reached.

New York's governor is authorizing nursing students and med students to work in the hospitals to help out. He is also urging all retired nurses and doctors to return.

He also just authorized double bed capacity and using all free space which is not allowed under current law. This means they can put a second bed in every ICU room, in the halls and what not. What ever space available.

Yeah, I was just trying to list types of doctors. I was just thinking about how overwhelmed hospitals are about to get and anyone with medical experience would be better than nothing. I wouldn't want a dermatologist performing any type of lung surgery on anyone. But there has to be something they can do.

I also recognize that it is a very huge burden to ask of our medical professionals. Thank you all for everything you do!

I don't know if I'm crazy and/or missing something here or if you guys don't know who Teddy Kaczynski is. The sober replies to @Chucktshoes' post are confusing me.

NY just ordered that evictions be suspended for 90 days. He had strong words to landlords to not attempt to kick people out. He also said my order today also means that realtors would not be able to show your property so you would not be able to even fill it if you did evict someone.

But at the end of the 90 days, currently there is nothing to stop landlords form evicting tenants if they can't pay up.

There is no suspension on rent for 90 days like there is on mortgage payments for home owners. So those who are not able to work because of this stay at home order, if they can't make rent, even if they are collecting unemployment, after those 90 days we are likely to see plenty of landlords kick people to the curb for not paying up. I think that is an issue they really need to address.

In high rent areas like NYC, Boston, San Fransisco and what not, rent is so high that unemployment benefits will not cover your rent. If you don't have an emergency savings and you find your self on unemployment because of this virus, odds are you won't be able to make rent.

I actually went as the Unibomber one year for Halloween. Hindsight being what it is, I am surprised I didn’t get in trouble carrying around a Ticking parcel while at work and later to bars in those post 09/11 times.

Remember my post from earlier about how it's kind of nice to be at work? I think I changed my mind.
Here are some quotes from a conversation I had 10 minutes ago. These quotes are from three different people:
"It's just the flu"
"Overblown"
"You can't get reinfected"
"I already had it"
"It can't survive in heat and humidity"

To the humidity statement I said 'I'm not sure if they know that's true' and he said yep, it's only in Northern Italy, southern is fine. I said what about Florida? He said it's only in Northern Florida too. ummmm. I just can't argue with some. And hell, I hope he's right, that would be great if summer killed it.

A nurse friend of mine posted yesterday about how her hospital is tinkering with ventilators to see if they can get them to support multiple patients at once. It was the first time I'd even seen that possibility suggested. Is that a stupid idea (I don't know anything about ventilators)? Are they powerful enough for that?

There's a Dr. up here in Ottawa that test that and spread the method a few days ago. The trick is that both people on it must be of a similar lung capacity.

you're right to be out of your mind there. medical professionals who have been doing what they're doing for decades don't know enough about this virus. why some of these Yahoos (and trust me, there are some in my family) think they know anything about it is fucking beyond me.

Exactly. I can't claim to know much of anything about this, so I don't know how anyone else can, based off of a couple internet headlines.

Many New Jersey beach communities are telling people who own beach houses. Do not come here to shelter in place. Stay where you are. If your beach house is a second home and you don't live in it full time do not come here.

My guess is they expect a lot of people fleeing NY who now has a stay at home order. They don't want being brining the virus with them.
