Neverending Covid-19 Coronavirus

Montreal is adding an outdoor no-appointment testing facility in heated tents (where they usually have festivals by Place-des-Arts downtown). 14 triage stations and 30 sample collection stations with 300 workers. They are planning 2000-2500 test a day.

This is what you need to do to get out of this and move foreward. Bravo.

Wow, just wow.

NY Governor Cuomo in NY is currently giving his daily press confrence.

He is saying that states are now having bidding wars over supplies driving up costs. The states that are bidding the highest are getting the supplies. He's calling out the Federal Government where they are in all this.

For example, masks, he said masts that were once 70¢ each are now $70 each because of bidding wars.

That is just horrifying.

I wouldn’t latch too hard on this. I strongly, strongly suspect there is more than a little embellishment going on here.

I mean we know Trump was already trying to strong arm test manufacturers. The states are just following his lead.

Atleast wine is alcohol. Though probably not strong enough to act as a disinfectant.

Weirdly there aren't a whole lot of cases of people transmitting diseases from the cup. I've been trying to follow up on the case of that church in DC, but it's unclear whether it produced a cluster even though an infected pastor gave Communion to like 500 people from a shared cup.

The UK is sending out notices that say anyone 70 years of age or older should stay indoors for the next 12 weeks and avoid contact with anyone.

The younger population, who are less vulnerable will be allowed to continue along as normal.

So it seems the plan of attack is keep the elderly in isolations, and let the young people keep the economy running.

Rich western Countries are much much much more unlikely to issue stay at home orders for everyone as the economy is more important than the human lives lost.

Not for nothing but the chart for each state is exactly the same with the numbers changed based on population. I’ve been looking at the John Hopkins map daily. Rural states and more agricultural type countries are fairing better so far. Probably because social distancing is already the norm. Even here in NC, it’s the areas that are heavily populated that are seeing high numbers - Charlotte, Durham and Raleigh. A disease with the communicability of this one is a much bigger deal to densely populated areas.

I did see that some states have already passed the no return point on the map. Where as rural states don't hit it until sometime in early April.

All the same, as you said, it's mostly uniform.

not going to dip my toe in any theories about this, but Cuomo has been excellent throughout this whole situation, definitely glad to have a person like him in charge of my state. I personally put a lot of stock in what he says.
To go any further into this would require a move over to the politics thread, but I fully expect Cuomo to run in 2024 and lean heavily on what he does and says now.
