On another note can someone tell me how waiver wires work? I claimed a player but I can't insert him in my lineup because the transaction is showing as pending. Does this mean it requires league approval?

you have a couple of peopme ahead of you in the waiver order. if they dont claim youll have him aftdr a certain time passes.
it was the same for me when i picked up that Pionk guy

Yeah, it shows the date he will be available to pick up in the owner section of stats. The first in the waiver order gets him on that day...you can cancel before that date though.

You should just be able to switch him to IR like switching positions for any other player. He just has to be on IR or O I think...maybe DTD works too.
