NHL Thread Because There Isn't An NHL Thread

Taylor Hall and the Boston Bruins are both open to extending his tenure with the team, but the Toronto Maple Leafs are among the clubs that could pursue him if he opts to sign elsewhere.

Hall and the Bruins are negotiating a contract extension, but there's "outside interest as well," reports TSN's Darren Dreger, who adds the Maple Leafs are included in that group.

On June 15, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney said both the club and player were amenable to him re-signing. Less than a week earlier, Hall said he saw a fit with Boston and wasn't looking to maximize his value in free agency.

Toronto holds about $9.3 million in cap space with nine pending unrestricted free agents, including goaltender Frederik Andersen and forward Zach Hyman, according to CapFriendly.

Hall, who's also a pending UFA, struggled with the Buffalo Sabres this season before they traded him to the Bruins in April. The 29-year-old winger then flourished with Boston, racking up eight goals and six assists over 16 regular-season games before adding three markers and two helpers in 11 playoff contests.

The Sabres inked Hall to a one-year, $8-million pact last offseason.

Since offense is not really an issue there, this seems like completely the wrong kind of player that Toronto needs to complement their team, so in that respect, sounds good.

Was certainly an issue in the playoffs! Depending on what he'll sign for I'd definitely be interested, especially as we'll likely be losing our top LW in Hyman.

I don’t really think the switch to ESPN/TNT is necessarily going to grow the game in the States that much, but I could be wrong.

I don't believe the NHL can grow the sport of hockey in the United States anymore than they already have. They've attempted to diversify the fanbase by expanding to non traditional hockey markets since the 90s and have succeeded in doing so but ultimately the sport of hockey in the U.S. is and will always be a regional appeal.

The NHL could absolutely grow more in the U.S. if they marketed the fun things about the sport instead of continuing to be the no-fun league.

You think? The series was decided by centimeters. I felt a better back end and extra sandpaper was what was missing. And I say that, but coaching may have made a difference too - series are all about adjustments and counter-adjustments.

Yeah, it was obviously a very close series, with two (?) games decided in OT, but with Tavares out, and Matthews and Marner being basically shut down, apart from the Nylander line which was excellent -- and Spezza -- no one else was going to give us much. Jumbo shouldn't have played and Simmonds wasn't the same after his mid-year injury. I like Galchenyuk fine but he can't be the top left wing on a depth chart. But I'm definitely in the school that thinks if you have a chance to get an actual difference maker, you should. I never thought the Foligno acquisition made much sense. A lot of people said, "Look at Toronto's offence! They need more depth guys, not big scorers!", but it's better to push better guys down the depth chart than to rely on a washed 40-year-old to provide meaningful offence.

That said, I'm sure he'll be too pricey for us this offseason.

I kept waiting for Matthews and Marner to be split so one could get out from under Danault, but it never happened.

Some good thoughts here. I’m always sad when the season is over because I don’t really watch any other sports anymore.
I will say this season I was able to watch more broadcasts from up North and I quite enjoyed them. Usually I only have time to watch Pens games. Hoping that continues for this upcoming season now that I’ll have TWO teams. 😁
