I really fell in love with the Mini Trees album over the weekend, hope it can pick up some attention down the line. Not that surprised itās still available on VMP, but the /250 edition on Run For Cover is still available.

I'm working my way through my September box (mostly to document what I'm gonna need replaced from VMP, sighhhh) but I just put on Chocolate Conquistadores and it's fantastic. I've never gotten a VMP secret release before, so I'm absolutely overjoyed that this ended up being the one.
I don't think it's been mentioned but it also includes liner notes from Bobbito Garcia of Fondle 'Em reflecting on his relationship with DOOM and it's tearing me up a little, kind of how I was New Year's Eve when I learned of his passing. DOOM is what got me into hip hop all those years ago. This track is probably his swan song and it's such a thing of beauty. I do genuinely hope it gets a wider release at some point because it belongs on everybody's turntable.
Edit: actually I just noticed this record is dish warped lol. Still sounds fine and a weight mostly fixes the issue. Still though lol fml smh

Semi-serious theory: there's no "pretentious indie rock" track to dump Grizzly Bear drops into so they've got Essentials and nothing else. Wu-Tang and their related releases can be trickled out through RHH (and the occasional Essentials) indefinitely. We've already seen it with the likes of Ghostface, Method Man, and it's looking like RZA is up next.
I seem to be in the minority here but in my opinion Veckatimest is one of the few essentials releases that actually deserves the label. This used to be a universally loved album. Not sure where all of this hate is coming from.
Obviously the QC issues lately make a botched pressing seem very possible, but if they manage to get it right this time this looks like itāll be the definitive version of a classic albumā¦ā¦to me

I don't "hate" it. I just didn't listen to it when it came out, and now that it's 2021 going back to it beyond my indie rock phase it's just 'meh'. If it was something I listened to at the time I'd probably be all over it (for example Return to Cookie Mountain).
Fair enough. I donāt see myself ever growing out of my indie rock phase.

I actually donāt have Veckatimest or Shields but I have heard the original copies plenty of times with friends throughout the years. I always thought that Grizzly Bearās albums sounded great on vinyl so yeah Iām not getting the Essentials or the store drops since they probably wonāt improve upon the originals. Plus you can get them all for pretty cheap if Iām not mistaken.
